Lelo
Good evening fellow students,I am momentarily debating on what topic / text type to choosefor my Written Task 1 since we have to hand in our proposal verysoon. I love writing creative texts, such as fictional reports ordiaries. I would very much like to write some sort of pastiche. The two topics I have thought about are: (also discussed in class)- Disney movies and racism / maybe sexism- background influencing language usage Now how could I combine the topics I find interesting and the texttype I would like to write in? I would be very thankful for a response! Thank you very much,Leonie Reply
SirilPotter
I would maybe go for an opinion column for the Disney-topic, then you can discuss the topic a bit more freely than if it is (for example) a newspaper article. It is also easy to include everyday-examples (maybe from the "columnist's" own life?) and include humour.Another option is to write a critical letter to the makers of a certain Disney movie where you critisize them for being racist/sexist.What you can do is that you choose three or four text types that you feel confident about and try to write the first/two first paragraphs of the text (then you could also try out both topics) to see what you like best.Hope this helped a little 1 Reply
Lelo
Thank you for the advice! Ill try to start both of the texts and decide later.Would you know a topic that would fit a fictional diary?Or even drama scene? Then I'd have a few different things Icould go back to. Lelo
So I have been able to speak with my teacher and I've decided to write a dialogue between a linguist and a 'heavily-accented' student / person based on the Pygmalion. I am now unsure about the timein which I should place my characters... Which would the IB appreciate more: the time we are now inor in the 1800's? I can find pro's and con's for both but I am still not quite sure.It would be wonderful if you could give me some advice Thank you very much for the previous answer! SirilPotter
This answer is very late, but....I think that I would choose the time we are in now, because it might be easier to find information about accents in our time than in the 1800's!
