SamarpanRai
Hi,I was going to this problem :Find the set of values of x for which |0.1x 2 − 2 x + 3| < log10 xAnd in the markschme it says "Attempting to solve 0.1x 2 − 2 x + 3 = log10 x numerically or graphically.x = 1.52, 1.79x = 17.6, 19.1(1.52 < x < 1.79) ∪ (17.6 < x < 19.1)"I want to know how i can solve in graphically? It would kind if you could help me. I have fx-9860GI. I would be grateful if you could help me with the numerical part too Thank you. Reply
-._._.-
You can plot the graph of log 10 x as Y1 and |0.1x 2-2x + 3| as Y2. Then you look at the regions where Y1 is above Y2. Make sure you have the correct domain though. Y1 will be drawn first. Or to make it easier to differentiate which is which, you can change the line of one of them to a dotted line (click on the line next to Y1 or Y2). SamarpanRai
Thank you very much! That really helped! Can you tell me how I can do it numerically? The calculator doesn't has screen large enough to have both 1.75 and 17 in its domain. Reply
Miralda
You cannot solve this with algebra...you should change the setting of the x-axis of your graph: go to window and xmin=0,1 and xmax=20 Reply
