Clauzy
i am doing my IA on Glanzer and Cunitz serial position effect on memory. and i want to know what and how to calculate the data. am i suppose to use the wilcoxon test to find the curve? if you have any other method that i can use please let me know.thnx.. blindpet
If you used an independent measures design you can use an independent t-test. I don't think you need to find the curve necessarily but it is important to compare the results between the groups. Reply
Clauzy
Thnx blindpet... I used repeated measure by the way.. Reply
blindpet
So your dependent variable was number of items recalled? If so then you use a repeated measures (also called paired) t-test. Reply
Clauzy
But I want to know which statistical test to use, becau my teacher told me to use the wilcoxon . However I was concerned about the drawing of the curve.. Reply
blindpet
If you have a small sample size then that might be why your teacher is telling you to use Wilcoxon. There is no statistical test to draw the curve, the curve is just a plot of the means for each condition with a line drawn between them. The important thing to do is run the Wilcoxon to compare each experimental condition to see if they are statistically significant. I hope that makes sense. Clauzy
i also want to know if i am suppose to calaculate the mean of the two conditions to draw a graph? Reply
blindpet
yes you will want to create a bar graph with the means, separate bar for each condition. Reply
Clauzy
i also want to know if my IA is valid if i my wilcoxon test doesnt support the study i am replicating...?do i fail or i can get a high grade if that is the case Reply
blindpet
You should in no way be penalized for not replicating the results of the original study. The point of the IA is the exercise of designing the study, running it and running the stats and writing up the results. Don't worry, you will not fail or anything, you can still achieve a 7.
