alldaylongchilling
Hey does someone have a list with all the syllabus definitions we need to know for chemistry?Youd be my hero for sharing them Reply
Tilia
Well, I suggest you do your own, that's how to learn.Go through the syllabus and check up what you need to know and then search for them in text books and in old markschemes, in order to see underlined words. I'll give you someAverage bond enthalpy - the energy needed to break one mole of bonds of a covalent compound in gaseous phase. An average of the same bond in simialr compounds.First ionization energy - the energy needed to remove one valence electron from 1 mole of atoms in gaseous phasePeriodicity - the study of repeating patterns in the period tableHybridization - the mixing of atomic orbitals to form new orbitals of equal energy.Geoisomers - molecules with the same structural and molecular formula but different arrangements of atoms in space.Sructural isomers - molecules wiht the same molecular formula but different structural formula.Rate of reaction - the increse in mass of a product per unit time. Dzeb
That's pretty much it. You could add Enthalpy change of formation, Enthalpy change of combustion and SigmaΠ bonds definitions. However, if you really understand the concepts under these topics, it is very easy to give definitions. They are all logical and there's not much to memorize just for the sake of memorizing. They are all logical and there's not much to memorize just for the sake of memorizing.Well, all the enthaply changes are pretty much the same. As for the others, there are some important things to be remembered, such as FI energy applies to gaseous molecules, but it's not too hard. The best way to rpectise is to do as many past papes as possible and remember the definitons when they show up. Reply
cgjames
http://ibchem.com/IB/ibsyllabus-2009.htmThis is an interactive syllybus and should help you brush up on the things you are not sure about. 1 Reply
watermelon
There is this awesome chemistry textbook. Pearson (IB Chemistry Diploma)It gives you the terms that you need to know at the back basically like a glossary Reply
