doesntmatterwhy
I just did the Psych Exam...I'll give you a run down..but it's not EVERYTHING.This website is VERY useful:http://cranepsych.com/Psych/Psychodynamic.html1. Cultural/Historical Influences - Pinel, Charcot, Darwin, Victorian Era, Women considered inferior2. Assumptions * Psychic determinism: all behaviour has a cause/reason which is rooted in the unconscious. * Behaviour is motivated by instinctual drives. * Different parts of the unconscious mind are in contant struggle. * Personality is shaped as the drives are modified by different conflicts at different stages of one's life.3. Theorists a. Freud - KNOW THIS WELL, be able to explain Tripartite System [id, ego, superego] Psychosexual Stages [oral, anal phallic, latency, genital] in the pallic stage - oedipus/electra complex, castration anxiety, penis-envy Defense Mechanisms and importance of dreams b. Eric Erikson Structure of the mind in his theory - gave more importance to Ego [also called Ego psychologist] Psychosocial Stages c. Jung Structure of the mind - collective unconscious, etc Archetypes d. Adler - inferiority/superiority complex e. Horney, Bowlby * know the importance of childhood in the development of personality in personality theories4. Empirical Studies - know the methodology, mostly case studies in this perspective [be able to evaluate it - strengths/weaknesses] Anna O, Little Hans5. Know examples of cultural/gender/ethical/methodological considerations that influence the interpretation of behaviorex: gender consideration in Freud's theory - phallic stage is different for each gender 6. Applications of the Psychodynamic Perspective - psychoanalysis, etc.7. Be able to evaluate the perspective as whole, strengths/weaknesses...how it's a product of its timeGood luck..let me know if you have queries! Biowiz
That makes things much clearer, thanksjust one question. How many theorists do you need to know in detail? Reply
doesntmatterwhy
For Psychodynamic..you must be spot on with Freud. And please make sure you got the theory correct because I found it hard to grasp at first. Then Erikson, Jung, Alfred, Bowlby..must. In that order.I'll edit and post my notes up when I'm done with exams. Reply
