sweetnsimple786
I've been wondering...How do IB schools work in countries where the school year doesn't start in the fall and doesn't end in the spring? I know for Japan and India, school starts around springtime. Do the IB schools just operate on the set IB calendar? And if you go to one of these schools, what is it like? Do you guys have overlapping holidays with your friends who are not in the IB program? Reply
moneyfaery
There are two sessions per year: May and November. Perhaps students there write Nov exams then. Reply
biochem
some schools have year around school with plenty of break time in the holidays. i know australia and some of Europe do this..simply, my friends just work year-around. I think it just gets you closer to a mental breakdown. Reply
laryxle
Well schools around here always start at the beginning of February or very end of January, so towards the end of summer, and end around the start of December, so at the start of summer. It makes sense with doing the November exams. As for holidays, we have 4 terms in the school year, each one goes for 8-11 weeks and we have 2-3 week break in between for Autumn, Spring and Winter holidays, and then about 8 weeks for summer break in between years. IMO it makes more sense than how they do it in other countries, with school years starting and ending in the middle of years IB exams start a couple of weeks after the exams for the NSW equivalent, so there will be some overlap there but apart from that times aren't really different. sweetnsimple786
Dude that sounds pretty nice. So summer is in November and December?? Reply
laryxle
The summer months are December to February, and summer break goes for December and January.I've never had a cold christmas, I think winter at that time of year would be weird. sweetnsimple786
Oh I feel slightly ridiculous now. You'd think after living in a place, I'd remember that changing the hemisphere changes a lot! We have hot summers here, but they're in June and July mostly, but I'd much rather go for a long break in December. I'm not a big fan of hot weather Reply

bohemian03
Japanese schools don't offer IB. Only International school in Japan does so they start in August and end in June ish so they take the May exams. I'm pretty sure the Australians and some Turkish kids take the November exams...
