One is by an anthropologist (who is now an emeritus professor at Stanford) and the other is by a man with a BA in English and MA in Italian Studies from Brown University and his PhD in Comparative Literature from The Catholic University of America. But, generally speaking, if the author is an expert in the field the book is fine to use of if it's published by a reputable publishing company.
