ElPoloLoco
I'm doing my IA on decreasing the amount of water in fruits by dehydration and measure does it affects the energy released when undergo combustion. I need some help is this experiment achievable and as the water decrease the energy also decrease right? Reply
kw0573
I am not sure how you are going to measure enthalpy of combustion such that you allow complete combustion AND make sure you are safe AND make sure all energy from combustion is transformed to some other form that can be measured. I don't think your topic is well defined, for example you should do a specific molecule or solution, instead of fruit. A specific research topic allows better data collection and discussion. Enthalpy of combustion per mol of compound is independent of the pathway, or should be independent of water content. I don't see merit in combusting different solutions because if you know enthalpy of combustion for one compound, and latent heat / heat capacity of water, you can calculate enthalpy change for solution. The instrumental uncertainties are likely too great to produce any significant data. Reply
