davalynntowell
So I have come up (with the help of my teacher) with an interesting idea for an IA, and I would like a second opinion to make sure it fits within the fields of what qualifies a topic as chemistry I guess. The idea was to look at violin strings, comparing cheap ones from quality ones, and seeing if maybe electroplating a cheap string would improve the quality, saving money possibly. Thoughts? anthropo
That's a really unique idea and would definitely score you points for personal engagement. However, my concern is how would you gather quantitative data in order to do data processing? And how would you determine the 'quality'? I don't see how this can become a chemistry IA. The quality of a violin string has more to do with physics rather than chemistry. 1 Reply
davalynntowell
So I ended up changing my exact goal from improving the quality to finding a possibly cheaper and faster way of reusing old violin strings, and to see if electroplating would last Reply
kw0573
If you are fascinated with electroplating, you don't have to attempt it on something as expensive as a violin. Find some other thing you can electroplate with a low economic risk. 1 Reply
