ebu
Hi I've been going through some Maths HL past papers and I'm struggling with a relatively easy concept because I haven't learnt it properly. If that's the function given, how do I find E(X)?? Thank you so much in advance! Edited August 6, 2015 by ebu Reply
Fiona
Since it is probability density function, to find E(x) you have to integrate xae-x between 0 and 1 (the limits are given in the question). In order to integrate it, you should use integration by parts and since we do not know a, the answer will be in terms of a. Here is the link for the entire solution: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/112562525249092215612/albums/6179833186384381329/6179833190711063858?pid=6179833190711063858&oid=112562525249092215612 Hope this makes sense! If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. 1 Reply
