JDuncan5876
I found two pieces which I believe would be extremely good for comparison, as well as a few scholarly articles analyzing each individually. However, I'm somewhat worried that they aren't quite distinct enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiCWKblbwXcThe first piece is entitled "Black Dog" by Scott McAllister. It is inspired by Led Zeppelin's song of the same name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBXsnClzUBwThe second piece is entitled "Morning Love" by Ravi Shankar. Shankar was a 20th century composer, but he composed in a classical Indian style. This particular piece contains hints of Western elements, most notably the presence of a Western flute, but the piece centers around the classical Indian style. I'm worried that both of these, being relatively recent pieces, could have been influenced by each other's cultures in some way directly. Are the cultures of these two pieces distinct enough for this to be considered a good selection? Reply
