Leia
Reading the essay guide first would save you from having to ask http://www.ibsurvival.com/forum/index.php?...xtended%20Essay Reply
Ruan Chun Xian
Hi S, this is Hien. I'm sure you don't want me to mention your real name on here. Anyway in case you're wondering how I know it was you, I checked your email. Anyway if you're doing your EE in English B, who would your supervisor be? (I'm guessing Mr Kel or someone I don't know hehe). I suggest you download the EE guide that is available in the link Leia just gave you and look at page 39, it should outline what you could do for a Lang B EE. There's more details in the document but basically to sum up you can do the following: Category 1: language The essay should be a specific analysis of the language (its use, structure and so on) normally related to its cultural context or a specific text. Category 2: culture and society A: essays of a sociocultural nature with an impact on the language The essay should be an analysis of a cultural nature that describes the impact of a particular issue on the form or use of the language. B: essays of a general cultural nature based on specific cultural artifacts The essay should be an analysis of a more general cultural nature but specific to a country or community where the language is spoken. Topics that are too broad and could apply to many cultures (like globalization, the death penalty or eating disorders) are inappropriate. Essays of a general cultural nature must be based on specific cultural artifacts. Cultural artifacts in this context are understood to include a wide variety of phenomena, ranging from works of fine art to newspapers, magazines and cartoons, to films, television programmes and popular music. Category 3: literature The essay should be an analysis of a literary type, based on a specific work or works of literature exclusively from the target language. In the case of a comparison of texts, all texts must originally have been written in the target language. For actually coming up with a topic though, I really suggest you go talk to your surpervisor. Ruan Chun Xian
WHAT??? When did he leave?? Crap, I haven't been in contact with him lately. I thought he was going to stay for another year?? Ack...I need to send him an email. :/ Anyway. Mr Michael...don't know him...is he the one who teaches drama as well? I think I saw him last winter when I was back and seeing the winter play.
the question of importance of faith in modern man's life?
This sounds incredibly like a TOK title. What you have to keep in mind is a Eng B essay have to focus on either the English Language or the culture of a country/community that speak English - this title doesn't deal with either the language or the culture, so no, it's not a very good title. Even if it was relevant, it's much too broad. What sense of 'faith' do you mean - faith in religion or in something else? and what exactly is the 'modern man'? Anyone else have an opinion? kaka-9o9
What do you guys think about this as a title for an English B EE? Cultural gaps in linguistic and non-linguistic communication with some reference to Arabic language. Reply
Mike
That seems like it would fall under Philosophy then English B. Reply
Leia
I think it's do able, and it does have things to do with language - just that I think at the moment it focuses too much on Arabic? How does this have anything to do with English? Are you going to do communication in English and somehow tie it in wiht Arabic? Not sure whether you can find a connection there...I suppose for the non verbal part you can go into some social/cultural aspect Reply
deissi
Forget Arabic, it's English B. If you do a language EE, it'll have to be about the target language only. Reply
