Anuja
Can anyone please help me out with the following question from Oxford IB course companion - 2014 edition Identify three mitochondria in the freeze-etched electron micrograph given below Reply
Frazer
A little bit to the right of the center, you can see thin lines stacked on top of each other. These are your mitochondria Reply
Anuja
Hi Frazer, thank you for your reply. Would it be possible for you to upload the picture with the mitochondria marked (by arrows or circles)?Else I can email the picture to you as well. Frazer
I'm not 100% but i'm pretty sure those 2 folds are the mitochondira, but i am not sure about the top one, i've always hated electron micrographs Edited October 30, 2014 by Frazer Reply
susanne
the arrow on the right hand side is not pointing to a mitochondria; I think it's Golgi Apparatus or something Reply
Frazer
the arrow on the right hand side is not pointing to a mitochondria; I think it's Golgi Apparatus or something I knew I got it confused! Basically ignore my diagram, the electron micrographs we study are a lot different and are a lot easier to identify so I was very confused when I saw this diagram. I'll refrain from replying next time if I am not 100% sure of my answer Edited October 30, 2014 by Frazer 1 Reply
Anuja
Thanks Frazer, Susanne. Yes, I'm pretty sure the ones marked in red are Golgi apparatus stacks. SEM micrographs aren't my favourite either. Reply
Anuja
Frazer, the topmost (and the biggest) blue question mark is the nucleus Reply
Frazer
Frazer, the topmost (and the biggest) blue question mark is the nucleus Haha, yes I know, the blue question marks were meant to be surrounding the red circle where I thought the mitochondria was placed, Usually you look for folds surrounded by a membrane but i cant see any , hope you can find your answer, try googling some SEM micrographs and compare Edited October 30, 2014 by Frazer Reply
