mhelof
Hi guys, I need to think of a WA topic and since all the other books that we've covered were pretty boring for me (no that I particularly embedded myself in Persepolis) I decided to write it on Persepolis. Does any of you know good essays or critics' reviews on Persepolis that I could use for inspiration? Thanks in advance Reply
Sceptyczka
Hi! I'm doing my EE on Persepolis and I am going to use the compendium (?) A Reader's Guide to Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis by Heather Lee Schroeder: http://www.amazon.com/Readers-Satrapis-Persepolis-Understanding-Literature/dp/0766031667/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402987497&sr=8-1&keywords=a+reader%27s+guide+to+persepolis I have not read it yet so I can't say much more about it but from what I have read on the Amazon's page it discusses Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi's graphic-novel-style memoir set in Iran, with regard to its literary merits and the historical and political roots in which it was born, and explores Satrapi's life. Finally various aspects of graphic novels are explained so that readers receive a balanced picture of the book as a whole as well as its themes and ideas. According to this, the compendium can be used for any kind of written assessment that deals with Persepolis. Apart from that I have found this summary interesting: http://cbldf.org/2013/06/using-graphic-novels-in-education-persepolis/ Unfortunately, there are not many professional reviews of Persepolis. However, there are lots of articles about banning teaching Persepolis in schools in Chicago due to too many violent scenes (e.g. scenes of tortures). Here is an exemplar article: http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/25/4144958/chicago-public-schools-bans-persepolis-graphic-novel-from-schools This is rather TOK content but you might use it too. I hope that my answer was at least a bit helpful. Good luck! PS I'm sorry for different fonts. Arrowhead
I suggest going onto academic seach engines like JSTOR and QUESTIA and seeing if they can yield anything useful on your topic. 1 Reply
flinquinnster
It's true that Persepolis doesn't quite have the same level of academic articles written on it as other books. I think the only ones which I encountered were to do with the graphics and the political context, not necessarily on the language which should usually be the focus of a Written Assignment. I did Persepolis for IOP and I found that I didn't refer to or use any secondary sources. To come up with a topic, what I did wasn't read someone else's essays or views, but to re-read the book and basically make a massive list of interesting motifs/images/narrow thematic aspects. Then, I tried to evaluate how many of the ideas in the brainstorm were viable and which I would be interested enough in to do an IA on. But I'm afraid that I don't really have any ideas for where to find essays for Persepolis! 1 Reply
VBD
This may be a little late to announce, but for the people who need help with this book for English A, German A, or even Danish A (yes we all need to read this during our course), I highly recommend checking Shmoob´s version out. http://www.shmoop.com/persepolis/A lot of detail, in a very nice and easily read order.Oh and if you are not to read the book, then you teacher might have chosen a substitute for that one. Tom Hiddleston
I just read Persepolis, and I definitely recommend reading Persepolis 2 to further your understanding and maybe then you could do a compare and contrast of her mentality between her ages and the factors which affected this change in mentality.
