FOA in Part I on Code Switching

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have to do my second FOA soon on Part I (Language in Cultural Context).

I was thinking of looking at code switching in popular culture, I have a video of Obama speaking in African American Vernacular English (or Black English - technical term!) at an NAACP conference which I would contrast with an extract of his speech on healthcare (just an extract because the speech is pretty long). I'd analyse the language changes and why he changes the way he talks.

It would kind of link to the "Demonstrate an awareness of how language and meaning are shaped by culture and context." objective.

Is that an OK idea for an FOA on Part I or is it too much Part II?

Thanks!!
