Can a protest qualify as a CAS activity?

Recommended Posts

I participated in a political demonstration exactly a month ago. Since I need more hours for action, I remembered that I went to a protest.

Can it qualify as a CAS activity (since it achieves a couple of the outcomes like global issues, ethics, and commitment)? Or is it too sensitive to be acknowledged by the IB people?

Thanks for your time :D

Hm, the best and only person to ask really is your CAS Co-ordinator. I'm leaning towards no because anything political or potentially involving any kind of violence was veto'd back when I did CAS, but it's your specific Co-ordinator who says okay/not okay at the end of the day. Also I expect it would be Service and not Action.

I would say no.

Even if it wasn't something taken offence to (hey, you can do whatever you like in your own time as long as it's legal!), I don't see it's relevance. It's not particularly creative, it's not a service and as for action... no. I would say not. You wouldn't be able to record walking home from school, or dancing around in the playground on your break etc as action hours, so I don't see why this would be different - the idea is the IB is trying to force you to undertake clubs/sporting hobbies, such as rugby, or hiking, etc.

My two cents :)
