Choosing between offers

Hi guys,

Now that we are well and truly into the admissions process, I believe that it is a good time to start looking at certain difficult decisions we might have to make. Namely, choosing between two offers. I'm fairly sure I am not the only who will be put in this situation. Here is my "ranking", in terms of preference of universities:

1) Oxford/LSE (PPE for Oxford, Phil & Econs for LSE)

2) Warwick/Durham (PPE)

3) Manchester

As you can see, I am slightly stressing out when I think of (at the risk of sounding like a cocky idiot) choosing between offers from Oxford and LSE.

More realistically, I already have offers from Durham and Warwick. If both LSE and Oxford reject me, I'll have to choose between these two.

As an international applicant, I have not experienced or even seen these universities, apart from pictures.

Can anybody who has been to any one of these universities, offer their two cents? (May '13 and older students, I'm looking at you!)

Oxford is a really lovely lovely place, sometimes quiet, but really nice buildings and lots of history. Obviously, the colleges are wonderful and old and the city is filled with students.

I don't know much about LSE, but obviously it's in London, and I live in London. London is amazing to be honest, always something to do and just such an amazing city. Unlike Oxford though, you don't get the same closeness between the students, as it is in an enormous city.

These are both such great places, I wouldn't want to have to choose! But, it depends what kind of place you want to live in.

Clearly, this is just info about the places and I don't know a great deal of details about the actually universities, which you will need to know to help decide! Sorry

I'd choose Oxford over LSE if you got the opportunity. Between Durham and Warwick, I'd go for Durham without a second thought.

Why, though?

Why what?

Why would you choose Durham over Warwick without a second thought?

Durham must be better than Warwick for that course. For some courses like Law Durham is much better than Warwick.

Between Durham and Warwick, I would choose Durham because of a number of reasons:

(1) Durham has a collegiate system, which is appealing to me. I like that there would be a tutor and lots of involved study with said tutor on a pseudo-one-on-one basis.

(2) I hate the countryside! But both Durham and Warwick are in the countryside, in which case, I'd pick Durham because having a collegiate system means a more closely-knit group of people as opposed to Warwick which is more of a traditional uni and a free-for-all when it comes to socialising.

(3) For Law specifically (which was my course), Durham has closer ties with top law firms and proportionally speaking, more Durham grads end up at high-end law firms as compared to the number of Warwick. That's not to say that Warwick grads don't, but Durham has a little bit more of an 'edge'. For Economics/Banking professions however, I'd say both Durham and Warwick are neck and neck, so this may not be as greatly relevant a consideration for the OP.
