Nathan Earl Chapman
I was wondering if I am able to show the historical context in a movie. For instance how the movie the Wizard of Oz was shaped with the historical surrounding. If someone could please tell me if I could do something like this and/or help me shape my question better. alefal
Hey there! That is unfortunately not suitable for a historical investigation. In order to do well in history, you need to focus your work on a historically significant event (though it does not have to be famous - that's a common misconception!) and you should base it on first-hand and second-hand sources. Fictional works, unless you're describing the use of propaganda or art, is not a recommendable source for an investigation in history. Think of it, you won't find an actual (and stereotypical) historian who would assess the historical context of a fictional movie, would you? That is what you could potentially do in an analysis of a work in visual arts (the IB course, that is), but not in history. Good luck! 1 Reply
SmileBeloved
I agree with the first comment. You could analyse other specific, historical works such as Saving Private Ryan. A sample question would be: how accurately did the movie describe the actual events? etc. Good luck! Reply
