Skylar
At my school, I'm going to be taking an IB class called History of the Americas. However, I can't find a class like this listed on the IB website... does anyone know what's going on? Reply
Arrowhead
You're going to be in History HL. Part of the course load of HL is to have to complete 3 Papers in the final exams. SL students only do Paper 1 and 2. The syllabus for Papers 1 and 2 is the same for HL and SL students: world wars, nature of warfare, cold war, rise of dictatorial regimes, etc. However, HL students complete an additional Paper 3 exam which is nearly 40% of their grade (I don't remember if it was exactly 40%, but it held the most weight as an individual component). For Paper 3, HL students have to study an extra option, this option is picked by the school they are in. Some students study Imperial Russian history as their Paper 3 option, others do South Asian history, European history, Victorian British history, and the History of the Americas.I too completed the History of the Americas when I did History HL, so if you have any in-depth questions about this Paper 3 option, feel free to ask.I hope that cleared things up for you.Arrowhead.
