Kabliataskis
Hi guys, I have heard that German universities really dislike the IB... I just want to find out whether this is true or not. Also, if the answer is positive what is the score to be accepted? I tried to ask some people from the DAAD about this, but they were unable to provide me with any useful information. That's why I'm counting on you Reply
HiggsHunter
German universities have some special rules for considering applications from IB diploma holders. They are described here:http://www.kmk.org/f...reate-Dipl..pdfThe applications have to be processed by Uni-Assist (The University Application Service for International Students), which can provide further information:http://www.uni-assist.de/index_en.html Edited April 24, 2012 by HiggsHunter Reply

Maybe they could share their experience with the one's who have the same dilemmas as I do? Reply

Kabliataskis
Do you have a language certificate or are you a native speaker? Tell us more I don't think the systems should be very different in both countries Reply
Absolutely Positively
Do you have a language certificate or are you a native speaker? Tell us more I don't think the systems should be very different in both countries For the universities in Switzerland you'd need about 32 / 45. So, I think Austria and Germany might be similar. HiggsHunter
For the universities in Switzerland you'd need about 32 / 45.So, I think Austria and Germany might be similar.Swiss universities do not take account of the bonus points, and the minimum requirements here vary from 32 to 38 points out of 42. But the Swiss university admission system is quite different from the German one, which has a unique system for mapping IB Diploma results to national qualifications. This is explained here:http://www.kmk.org/f...reate-Dipl..pdfThe applications have to be processed by Uni-Assist:http://www.uni-assist.de/index_en.html Reply
Guest CasaNova
Do you have a language certificate or are you a native speaker? Tell us more I don't think the systems should be very different in both countries For Austrian universities you need minimum 24 points(you need to have a diploma).. I asked them what do I need since i am an IB student, they just told me: nur IB Diplom mit 24 Punkte haha and I still do not have a language certificate(I will need German OSD C1 Niveau), but I will attend VGU in Graz(language course) for 1-2 semesters until i learn german enough to be able to get C1 certificate. I have B1 at the moment but that is not sufficient. If you want to know how to learn german faster and more efficient than just go on justin.tv website and find some live channels(pro7, rtl, find some channels with anime movies - naruto, dbz, digimon, pokemon - i like these so i dont ahve any problems to watch animes ) also read articles on orf.at, deutsche welle, and make flashcards.. that is definitely the best way to learn german or any other nlanguage.. zuckerpuppe
Hey,its true! german universities hate IB. I know some people who scored around 40 points in their final exams but were rejected at all universities they applied to. However, its not impossible to get into university in germany with the IBD but the chances vary a lot depending on the subject you want to study.Additionally we have something called "NC" (numerous clauses) which is like a cut off mark. If you score less than the NC required for your subject it really hard to get in. For more information:http://www.ibo.org/country/universities_rec.cfm?country_code=Germany¤t_country=DEHere is a table in which the IB grade is converted in the Abitur grade (Abitur is the typical german high school diploma). The converted grade is the one that is decisive for your application. I personally think that this conversion is really unfair, first of all because IB is harder than the normal abitur. But there's nothing we can do about it.http://www.robinsweb.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=11 Reply
faspfer
I was wondering whether anyone had some experience with the application process to German universities. Since the application deadline for Winter Semester 2012/2013 is July 15, all of my documents (including high school certificate, i.e. IB Diploma) have to arrive by then. However, there is no chance that I will obtain the Diploma by that date, even though I took IB exams in May 2012. Do you think German universities (uni-assist) are ready to accept the Predicted Grades document or maybe wait for the transcripts to arrive after the deadline? Thanks.
