Marc Goffaux
hi everyonei am taking chemistry sl and this year is the last year for me in ib and it seems for me a bit hard because i dont have a strong background in Chem.could anyone tell me how to catch up and how to get a 7 ??waiting for any adviceFocus on the syllabus. If you want to get it right and fast, since it is the last year, get a full syllabus and start with the beginning of it. Keep studying the questions and subjects proposed by syllabus that you dont know how to answer until you are able to answer them all. This way you will focus entirely on the material IB wants, not wasting time with the sometimes useless information some books presents.I know is kind of obvious and inst that much of an advice, but IB is basically that Hope it helps,Marc S. Chocaholic
Maybe grab the IB Chem Study Guide too by G. Neuss. It has a pretty good reputation and really focuses on what you need to know for the exam. Also, a course companion by the same author might also help. Marc Goffaux
The syllabus is basically a summary of everything you need to know, so anything the syllabus ask for you need to know that might be in the exams.Ask your teacher or search for in the IBO website. Also IB books have them at the beginning of each chapter.Hope it helps,Marc S. Goffaux Reply

Sandwich
Marc is completely right about the syllabus being the IB Bible and you can download it for free from the Files section of this website The Geoffrey Neuss Study Guide I actually didn't like very much (I don't think he does a very good job of summarising quite difficult concepts -- you can't really just remember Chemistry, you have to understand it and so you can't really summarise). I thought the Course Companion (also by Neuss) was better because he explains things in much more detail. To be honest Chemistry doesn't have amazing material for anything, I never found a textbook which was really good! I'd get the Course Companion if I were you then use it and the Syllabus to work through things.SL doesn't have any really difficult concepts in it, but I still think the Course Companion > the Study Guide. Most notably the Study Guide requires you to be in a position where you're just reminding yourself of stuff you already know... rather than teaching you or explaining it!
