What you need to know mostly consists of what the reactions are and the major differences between them (e.g. Sn1 is unimolecular, while Sn2 is bimolecular, and the mechanism behind each reaction). At SL, you only need to know that halogenoalkanes undergo SN reactions to form alcohols.
