matbla
Hey, I'm doing English Lang/Lit (former a2, I guess) and from the formal point of view, the course is for native speakers. As I'm not one of them (meaning native speakers), I've spotted that sometimes i do have some 'gaps' in vocabulary. Could you recommend me a tv series or a book which uses very sophisticated language + idioms (Californication doesn't make it ) to use both in life and school? Thanks a lot! :)) Edited November 1, 2016 by matbla Reply
mac117
I personally like Outsiders, Mr Robot, Dr. House, Doctor Who, and Lucifer. Maybe not the most sophisticated language is used in those, but I enjoy the accents (plus it helps me improve my pronouncistion). From books I'd recommend Sherlock Holmes - lovely stories and rich in vocabulary! 1 Reply
IB_taking_over
If you're into comedy, the Simpsons isn't a terrible cartoon to watch. It's got quite a few cultural references and some intelectual humor if you listen closely. Big band theory also uses some intellectual vocabulary. Most of its science related, but it's still a pretty good show. Book wise, Twain and Faulkner are always classic American literature. Reply
