allthebest
When drawing the born-haber cycle for sodium chloride, the values that are given are: atomization of Na and the enthalpy change of formation. How can I find the other values in the formula booklet? which table should I use? for example, for: Na (g) + 1/2 Cl2 (g) becoming Na+ + e- + 1/2Cl2 (g) thank you. AnjaDe
When Na is loosing an electron that is ionization energy, when chlorine is gaining that electron that is electron affinity, I think you have them in the data booklet Reply
Msj Chem
They can be found in the data booklet. For Na it is the ionization energy and for Cl2 it is the bond dissociation enthalpy (but divide by 2 because it is 1/2 Cl2). In the latest data booklet, it is table 8 (ionization energies) and 11 ( bond dissociation enthalpy). Here's a video that may help: Edited May 18, 2016 by Msj Chem 1 Reply
