What ways and areas of knowing does utilitarianism use?

According to this site here, utilitarianism is 'an effort to provide an answer to the practical question “What ought a man to do?”. Its answer is that he ought to act so as to produce the best consequences possible.'

Thus, I believe that it uses the following WOKs:

  • Reason - since utilitarianism is based off what is morally right or wrong, we use our reason to determine which category our actions fit under
  • Intuition - same as above
  • Emotion - we also rely on our emotions to determine what is right or wrong

AOKs:

  • Human sciences
  • Natural sciences
  • Ethics
  • Possibly religious knowledge systems when determining what is wrong or right

I hope I helped a bit - this website is also quite useful http://www.iep.utm.edu/util-a-r/
