Help me with this multiple choice IB physics question?

 The answer key said the answer is B, but I don't know why....

 

Well, according to the theory, the voltmeter is a machine that blocks the flow of electrons. And because the voltmeter is connected that way, it disallows the current to flow from one end of battery cell to the other end through the circuit. This means that the anmeter would register 0 amps for the current.

Because there's no current in the circuit, there's no potential drops. This means that the voltmeter would register the voltage across the 2 ends of the battery cell (which is 6 V). Hence the answer is B.
