asadpasat
I want to do IB certificate and just to make sure, is it required that you take English HL? Or you can take regular english. Thanks a lot. Reply
Maple
If you are doing certificate, you can choose any subjects that you want. You are not limited to English Literature HL 1 Reply
IEAFBC812
As Maple said: you're not obliged to do English HL.But it really depends on the subjects your School offers: My School for example only offers English Lang&Lit even to those only wanting to take certificates. Sandwich
You should look at how HL is considered though in comparison to non-IB english. In the UK for instance, 'regular' english i.e. the non-IB course is considered equivalent to HL English and not SL English. This doesn't matter much for the normal diploma, but if you're only taking certificates it might be something to think about. I know in the US, depending on where you apply, some Universities will only reward you in their credit system if you take a subject at HL, so it's probably worth thinking through whether HL will bring you any benefits and SL any downsides.
