Hello guys,

This morning I received my recommendation for my IB package. Unfortunately, I got a standard B for English and it's really disappointing. I tried to persuade my teacher to give me chance to try English A lit and lang. Finally, he gave me 3 months to try on this subject and he said that if next year if I got less than 4 for the first assessment, I would have to drop this subject to English B. Now I have to try my best to overcome this obstacle but I struggle to find useful guides which can help me to boost my grade. Can you guys please give some online sources that help students improve their writing?

Thank you.

In general, the best way to improve your writing is to read good literature and begin to get a firmer grasp on the style and vocabulary.

Some reading suggestions:

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

The 5 People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

Persuasion by Jane Austen

The Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

1984 by Goerge Orwell

Animal Farm by George Orwell

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

The Book Thief by Mark Zusak

If you're feeling ambitious and up for a challenging read, then these are some books you should definitely read at some point in your life:

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The Brothers Karamaza by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier

Don Quixote by Cervantes

Love, Words, Death and Sex by John Sutherland & Stephen Fender

But you know, also do some guilty pleasure reading, I've read the HP series more times than I can count. I also love the Percy Jackson series and the sequel written by Rick Riordan, The Black Magician trilogy and The Age of Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan. SO many amazing books out there if you're willing to take a look.

Pick two or three from the list and hit the stacks (no pun intended).

The other thing you can do is begin getting accustomed to writing academic-style essays and following the structure like a strict code of practice.
