Guest Canhsjii
Hello guys,This morning I received my recommendation for my IB package. Unfortunately, I got a standard B for English and it's really disappointing. I tried to persuade my teacher to give me chance to try English A lit and lang. Finally, he gave me 3 months to try on this subject and he said that if next year if I got less than 4 for the first assessment, I would have to drop this subject to English B. Now I have to try my best to overcome this obstacle but I struggle to find useful guides which can help me to boost my grade. Can you guys please give some online sources that help students improve their writing?Thank you. Reply
Arrowhead
In general, the best way to improve your writing is to read good literature and begin to get a firmer grasp on the style and vocabulary. Some reading suggestions:The Giver by Lois LowryThe God of Small Things by Arundhati RoyTuesdays with Morrie by Mitch AlbomThe 5 People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch AlbomPride & Prejudice by Jane AustenPersuasion by Jane AustenThe Shiva Trilogy by Amish TripathiThe Dresden Files by Jim ButcherBrave New World by Aldous Huxley1984 by Goerge OrwellAnimal Farm by George OrwellThe Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark TwainThe Great Gatsby by Scott FitzgeraldA Farewell to Arms by Ernest HemingwayCatch-22 by Joseph HellerLittle Women by Louisa May AlcottThe Book Thief by Mark ZusakIf you're feeling ambitious and up for a challenging read, then these are some books you should definitely read at some point in your life:Atlas Shrugged by Ayn RandWar and Peace by Leo TolstoyMein Kampf by Adolf HitlerA Tale of Two Cities by Charles DickensCrime and Punishment by Fyodor DostoyevskyThe Brothers Karamaza by Fyodor DostoyevskyMadame Bovary by Gustave FlaubertCold Mountain by Charles FrazierDon Quixote by CervantesLove, Words, Death and Sex by John Sutherland & Stephen FenderBut you know, also do some guilty pleasure reading, I've read the HP series more times than I can count. I also love the Percy Jackson series and the sequel written by Rick Riordan, The Black Magician trilogy and The Age of Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan. SO many amazing books out there if you're willing to take a look.Pick two or three from the list and hit the stacks (no pun intended). The other thing you can do is begin getting accustomed to writing academic-style essays and following the structure like a strict code of practice.Read some of the guides that the members have kindly provided for effective research and writing:Tips for Reading IB booksTips for writing essaysTips on Structure Reply
