tsunafish
I'm wondering if there's something I could do my internal assessment on that revolves around the Korean War in the Cold War. So far, I was thinking of writing about the significance of the UN's role in the Korean War, but I'm afraid there won't be enough to argue and analyze in it. Dos anyone have any suggestions for topic questions? Reply
alefal
Hey there!First of all, the Korean War has been used a lot in earlier IAs, and unless you are dealing with less known/discussed documents or events, and/or less discussed perspectives, I would perhaps try to find a more original part of history to analyse (Cold War subjects have been done to death already). When that is said, I am myself writing my IA about the Korean War. I found by chance a debate between two historians about the relevance of certain documents, in which one of the historians asserts the documents are important in understanding the relation between Stalin and Kim Il Sung, and ultimately Stalin's approval of Kim's campaign. As for your IA, this forum won't feed you with answers. The ideas have to come from yourself, not from us. If they were to come from us, they wouldn't be original. When that's said, I think the idea you already have is both too broad and too overused. What about talking about something related to Mao instead? I know there's a lot of interesting things about him and the Korean War. Maybe looking at the Taiwan campaign of his, and see if there's anything interesting there? Is there anything controversial or uncertainty related to the Korean War now that the Soviet archives has been opened? I reckon so, as the Chinese and North Korean archives are still closed (though some documents from the Chinese archives can be found), and the Soviet archives can't possibly cover everything. Good luck with your IA! Reply
