zuvisko
Hello, I want to ask someone if could suggest some good ideas for laboratories. Because our teacher is quite strange and gives us laboratories which are quite in IB style Reply
deissi
You mean lab experiments? Shouldn't your teacher assign them? Reply
appleme
HiI'm not sure what you mean about laboratories which are quite in IB style. There are several parts that can be assessed in a lab: design, data collection and processing, data presentation and conclusion and evaluation. Your teacher should give you handouts that tell you what to do, and would probably only expect you to do just data collection or just data processing in the beginning - definitely not a whole lab. S/he shouldn't really be making you design any lab you want with no guidelines, but if s/he is, use the following advice:1. Keep it simple2. Try testing a known formula so you can compare your values to the literature values3. Measure two variables (e.g. force and acceleration to test F=ma) - this is easiest4. Try to eliminate other variables in your design (e.g. control friction by using a trolley instead of sliding the mass on a rough surface)5. Use uncertainties in your calculations Reply
deissi
I add to this:6. In your conclusion suggest realistic improvements on how your experiment could've been better and what mistakes you've made. They can be BS improvements, but don't suggest that the experiment should take place in a perfect vacuum space or "we could've called Einstein for help" or something like that - you'll get punished Reply
zuvisko
Thanks a lot,Sometimes our teacher says make your own lab experiment, so maybe you can suggest some examples? Reply
deissi
Thanks a lot,Sometimes our teacher says make your own lab experiment, so maybe you can suggest some examples? Well, she should give you a general idea of the lab. Depends on the topic you're doing of course, so care to elaborate on that? Mechanics is pretty easy to come up with at least.
