Anyways, I need to see other colleges cuz I don't wanna put all my eggs into one basket. =\ UF gives the most credits to IB in all Floridian schools... Scade
This is not about the USA, but my friend's brother was in IB and his predicted grade was 44 points and he applied only for UK universities. He applied for Cambridge, Warwick, Bristol and some two others that have less fame. He got an interview at Cambridge but they rejected him. Warwick rejected him. He got accepted to Bristol however - although he had 44 points predicted in the IB!! He has been gaining 7s for 5 subjects and a 6 for HL Maths during IB2. But I heared he only did the most neccessary for CAS; 150 hours.I don't know if that was hard luck, but 44 points wasn't enough for Cambridge and Warwick..... Maybe extra-curriculars play a much greater role nowadays than they used to... any thoughts? In Cambridge getting into the interview is based on your personal statement, references, predicted grades and the school work you sent there (if they demand one). But getting an offer is much more based on your interview. What subject was your friend applying for, and what subjects did he have? Having suitable HL subjects is rather important. About Warwick I don't know that much. To be honest, I don't that the fact that he didn't get offers there was due to his CAS. As I said, they look for a combination of personal statement, references, and predicted grades. So having good personal statement and references, but not so high predicted grades can get you an offer, or some other way round. Reply
chileanbob
; Well I'm applying to UF later this year (as in the 08-09 chool year), and I know that me being the Vice president of French club and in the newspaper club are not enough extra cirriculars; any suggestions to improve the chances of being accepted? Forester
I think Cambridge needs at least 7 in Maths HL for you to get accepted in for Economics. Because that's what LSE needs. So if your friend got a 7 in maths and Eco and 6 in the other 2 HLs, he probably would have been accepted. IBStuck
; Well I'm applying to UF later this year (as in the 08-09 chool year), and I know that me being the Vice president of French club and in the newspaper club are not enough extra cirriculars; any suggestions to improve the chances of being accepted? do you have a job? do you play a sport? an IB diaploma is not good enough for them coz most of thier applicatnts have one coz one. join some more culbs maybe... become dedicated to maybe one more thing. i dedicated a lot of time to deerfield beach's relay for life. you just need to prove dedicatiom/ Reply
__inthemaking
Like the others said, it depends on which university. In Canada, your school grades matter more because universities will accept you in Jan-May, before your IB results come out so your school grades must be good in order to get accepted. Because the university that I am going to in Canada give conditional offers until my IB grades come out. UBC and Trent. Reply
__inthemaking
Is that necessarily true. Because the university that I am going to in Canada give conditional offers until my IB grades come out. UBC and Trent.Yeah, I got early acceptances to Queen's and Western based only on my school grades (I was accepted in January/February). For U of T and McMaster, I was accepted based on final grade 12 semester 1 marks. All of my offers were conditional until they saw my final grade 12 marks. For most Ontario universities at least, they won't look at your IB marks unless you request them to look at your grades.Like for McMaster, I needed to maintain 90% grade 12 average for the offer to stand. They didn't care about what my final IB grades were as long as I had a 90% average. Reply
abcdrcill
I think it depends on if the University gives consideration to IB grades. I know that UF does. I'd say average grades, along with good SAT scores and IB scores, will benefit you well. Reply
