kdk9008
for universities, how important are my school grades?is it possible to go to a good uni with average school grades and good IB grades?? Reply
Afterglow
It all depends on what course, what uni and what you mean with 'good' uni. The principle is however - the better grades, the better chance. However, it shouldn't be taken as a strict route. In many cases, extracurricular activities, experience and other test results may play a huge important factor. Forester
Grades matter more than your final IB grade for US universities.edit: for UK universities grades do not matter. Your mock grades matter, and your final grade matters 100% Edited January 10, 2008 by Forester Reply
Guest iber2468
^ Agreed. The more other criteria they have (SAT, geographic reasons), the less grade weighs. Reply
ozZiiiii
As said, depends on uni. Any universities where SATs and so on are voluntary? Reply

deissi
As said, depends on uni. Any universities where SATs and so on are voluntary? Well, I'm assuming you mean American Universities, but keep in mind that this is an international site . European universities don't require SAT/ACT at all, IB is enough for them. For some unis in Europe though, it is possible to gain admission with SAT points. Helsinki School of Economics is one of these. When it comes to the rest of the world, I have to admit, I don't know Reply

In comparison to the IB grades themselves, that is. Reply
rue saint-denis
so, in the situation of a european university, where they don't care about standardized tests, do they care about your school grades? Reply
niceperson91
What are ACTs? Same thing as SATs or do they cover something else?SATs and the ACTs are both very similar tests as they are both used heavily for university entrance. SAT is out of 2400 as you might know but on the other hand, ACT is out of 32. I think that the only difference between the two tests is that ACT has an extra section and it also has a science section which SAT I do not have. From what I have heard, SATs are more popular for university entrance but i think almost all universities accept either scores. Reply

Forester
For international admission into UK unis, if the candidates applying do not have a national diploma that is recognised, then they do use the SAT.As I am from New Zealand and our national qualification is rather sh*t, people take the SAT and when they fail to get accepted to USA, they apply to UK.A friend of my got into LSE based on the fact that she got 1900 in SAT but perfect scores in SATiis.ACT is out of 36 rohit. Guest Igusiakisses
I heard from a friend of mine, who is currently in Ib2 that the grades from the final exams are the most vital. However, those from 6 core subjects count a lot too, so I guess if one desires to become successful they need to get down to work and stop wondering about how to avoid looking at the tons of books and notebooks that are on their desks Lose this day loitering - 'twill be the same story Tomorrow-and the next more dilatory ; Each indecision brings its own delays, And days are lost lamenting o'er lost days. Are you in earnest? seize this very minute- Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Only engage, then the mind grows heated- Begin it, and then the work will be completed! Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, in the hope that you will find some practical advice in Goethe's encouraging words. Valentyn
I have been applying to both UK and USIn the UK, they dont care about your grades, just the predicteds and your final scores to see if you meet the offers you have been given (for applying as individual, anyway), no school transcripts are involved. The US is quiet diffrent in the sense that they dont even ask for your predicteds, it's just your past grades and extracirriculars and SAT's that matter. So judjing by thediffrences between the two, you can roughy evaluate your perspectives in diffrent universities in these countries. Goos luck, by the way... Reply

And what he said shocked me:``At our university, as well as many other US universities, 50% of what we're interested in are your academics and the other 50% are your extra-curriculars´´How true is this?pretty true. they care about the leadership position that you have held. for example i was in about 5 clubs, and held three officer postitons. this looks better thatn being in 20 different clubs. they are looking for time dedicatuon and commitment. it is like having a job while in high school.
