Well, it is possible to do a data-based IA, however, I don't think it's recommended, they don't usually score well. If you can't physically do an experiment, maybe think of doing database + simulation (if you're able to use some computer programmes and know how to do it). I think someone in my school did a simulation IA about one of the compounds, so things like the bondings etc. and it scored well. You can see some examples here:


However, if you can physically do an experiment and have access to lab or something you can do at home (I think there should be some things that you should be able to do at home), then I'd say it's a safer option.
