I went to Vienna University to ask about the application by the IB Certificate but they rejected me saying that an IB certificate is not considered as school leaving certificate, and therefore I have no idea what to do next. Guest Posted October 10, 2016 Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Are you taking the IB certificate? Or the IB diploma? Because those two are different things. The diploma shows that you have done all aspects of IB, including CAS, the Extended Essay, and Theory of Knowledge. For IB recognition in universities in Germany, you may look at this old thread. This document has the requirements needed for an IB diploma to be considered as equal to the Abitur, the prerequisite for German universities. This will not apply if you are doing an IB certificate. As for Austria: "the IB diploma is considered a foreign secondary school leaving certificate, even if the school issuing the diploma is in the country. Admission decisions are at the discretion of higher education institutions." However, "In case that the requirements are not met and the Diploma was not awarded, the final document then is not an IB Diploma, but IB Certificates. These are not to be considered a secondary school leaving certificate." (source) I cannot tell you what universities in Austria will recognize what you have, as it changes for each university. Sam Skh Posted October 10, 2016 Author Report Share Posted October 10, 2016 Thank you Thundercracker for the reply, I'm now doing an IB certificate and i'm really stressed out because i don't know what to do next, and i have a 5 in all my predicted grades which in my opinion not very good and not very helpful to get in some Computer sciences course. Well, I also E-mailed some universities in Austria and they rejected me because an IB certificate is not a school leaving certificate (WU and GU).. and therefore i need someone who have this experience.
