__inthemaking
The maximum word limit for all subject areas is 4000. However, for math and sciences EEs, they don't expect you to actually write 3800-3900 words because you'll have graphs, charts, tables, etc. so it's acceptable if you write around 3000 words. yodude888
My teacher actually gave me a lower figure. He said that you could get away with 2000 words if the maths was intense enough. However, you really have to watch out that you're filling all the 'non-maths' criteria... as it's actually weighted heavier than the criteria concerning your actual mathematical manipulations and skills. IBSQUARED
My math teacher said 2500-3000 words for a math EE would suffice Reply
Ib_slave
For maths, you could probably make do with 3000 words. Although 4000 is actually the minimum requirement. Reply

KLSmash
The maximum for all Extended Essays is 4000, however for a Mathematics one, they usually do not expect you to write as much as you would for an English one. My instructor told me if you get above 2500, you should be fine, but aiming for 3000 - 3500 would be the best idea. Reply
Leeno22
Do mathematical variables such as x or y and like specific notation to denote mathematical objects such as G for a particular set count as words? How does IB count the number of words and what counts as a WORD? Reply
