Daisies in the Meadow
Hello,I am doing my ee on Frankenstein, my thesis statement is:"How does the portrayal of romanticism and enlightenment in Frankenstein, reflect on Mary Shelley's perceptions on these movements?"I was wondering whether my topic is too narrow or if it even makes sense, I'm mainly worried about how I am going to write 4000 words for this particular topic Reply
Arrowhead
I think the problem I see with your topic is its reverse-literary. Instead of using the author's intent as a tool to arrive at an analysis of the novel itself, you're using the novel to ascertain the personal opinion of the author on matters unrelated to the novel. There is a distinction between an author's intent when writing a book and the author's wider opinions that have very little to do with the book.I think you should shift the focus of your essay from Mary Shelley and back to the novel itself and perhaps explore the themes of romanticism and enlightenment and their effectiveness in the book.Just some food for thought. Daisies in the Meadow
Sorry but what do you mean by their effectiveness in the book? Do you mean how it is constructed and/or portrayed in the book? Reply
Arrowhead
Sorry but what do you mean by their effectiveness in the book? Do you mean how it is constructed and/or portrayed in the book? Pretty much, yeah. Also, the extent to which it is successfully portrayed or if Shelley displayed them in an unconventional manner, etc. Reply
