Hi guys, I’m currently in IBY1, taking HL biology, chemistry and English B. I really want to go to the University of Guelph for BS, and later go there to veterinary school. I’m struggling with chemistry, my teacher is a bit of a bully and I’m scared before every lesson. Also, I get mainly 5s and likely (and hopefully) 5 as a predicted; does it put me in disadvantage while applying to Guelph? I have 6 in Biology and 35-36 is likely to be my predicted score at the end of IBY1. Is it too low for my dream university? Thanks in advance for your help

Hi! It's about time for me where I have to choose my courses for next year, I'm currently a sophomore doing pre-ib. But I'm not sure if I should continue doing chem/bio/physicis at the ib level. This year's science honors was already something that had me hanging my a thread. My grades were barely ever higher than 70% especially on tests. Now I'm stuck in the middle wondering if I should just do the sciences at normal level so there can be a higher change of me raising my grades or should I attempt and take the risk of taking the sciences at ib level? I'm just wanting to hope that I can g

Hey!! I'm starting IB in less than a month and I already chose my subjects because I wanted to major in Psychology. However, I am now leaning towards veterinary science. At first, I chose bio SL. To be a vet, I first need to have a bachelor degree in Biological Science. The uni I plan on going does not require chem. But, if I do major in biological science, there will be some chem classes. I am for sure taking Bio but I am not sure if I should move it to HL and add Chem SL. My question here is how hard is BIO HL compared to BIO SL? (I'm interested in bio) Will chem SL help me in uni

Dear associates, I need your help. My Extended Essay subjects & topic are due soon, but I am struggling with the choice. I am determined to study medicine after graduating, and thus I want my EE to be relevant. However, when it comes to related sciences, Biology and Chemistry, teachers in my school strongly advise against them, claiming that students get the lowest grades for these subjects. I am interested in them but not much competent in either Bio or Chem, as I picked them only a month ago (this is another story 😂). Those of you who are experienced in the sciences or anyone

Is it okay to do an IA that has already been done before?
Sadie posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello, I found a really good IA topic online for ESS, I wanted to know if it's okay for me to do the same thing? Obviously mine will have different data etc.. but is this allowed?- 2 replies

Hey guys! In my TOK presentation, I am talking about how science advances and the ethical issues that come with that advancement. What can I state as a claim and counter claim [in terms of ethics and advance], when I talk about certain experiments that were undertaken in psychology to find more about how humans work? Such as the Milgram Experiment, and the blue eyes, brown eyes classroom experiment?

I was looking for requirements for IB to be accepted in Germany. For a person who will study film / design is it required to have a science topic in HL? This is the document I read, it says that in page two section b) : http://toolbox1.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/site_0341/internationalschoolulm_germanyrecogibdiploma_091714.pdf

Hello, I am finding it difficult to decide which science subjects to choose and would appreciate some help and guidance. First of all, I am not entirely sure what I want to study in the future (perhaps economics, although the sciences really interest me too). That being said, I am sure about studying in the US. I have done a summer course in IB biology (also math which I am fairly well at), also had a brief look at the content that appears in IB physics. I have no prior background in chemistry however. These are my subjects in general: Economics HL English HL

Hey guys, So we've just started our chem IAs and my IA is on how temperature effects the dissolved oxygen concentration in a sample of water from a lake in my city. I just wanted to ask if that is too simple a chem SL internal assessment topic. A reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys/girls, So I am writing because I chose: - Maths HL - Physics HL - Economics HL - Chemistry HL - Spanish B SL - English Lang. & Lit. SL Although I believe I could work through this as I have quite good grades (not trying to be cocky), I think this will be too tiring for me... I was thinking of changing Chemistry for something much easier. I would like your opinion as well as a short summary on the following courses please: Geography SL, Business SL (I don't want to take Econ and Business but it's still an option), Computer Science SL (I

I was wondering if it was possible to use my experiment from the Group 4 project for my Biology IA? I'm not sure if the IB would like that though :/ Does anyone know if this is possible?

Hey guys So Ive kinda sorta decided on my EE topic. RQ- identifying the effect of caffeine on the growth rate of gut bacteria like lactobacillus.acidophilus and lactobacillus._____" (havent decided which species to take rn) Is this too simple for an EE? Will this take 40 hours? I know i can pull off some graphs/tables but is this too generic? And also, will it stretch out to 4000 words? Thanks

Hello! I am currently stressing out because I want to be a psychologist so I was planning on taking HL Bio. I'm pretty good at it. I currently have an 90 in it. However I hear it's very hard to get a 7 in it so I've been thinking that I could learn the Biology aspect in university and take Design Technology so I can get a better grade. Opinions?

I want to pursue Economics at college, so my full concentration would be on mathematics hl and economics hl. But I have to choose a subject at sl level in experimental sciences and Im looking for a subject which requires a very less time and is easy to score. I am thinking of choosing bio sl , ess sl or computer science sl. I really love suggestions on other subjects as well. Thank you.

So I have been told that there is no word limit for IAs...but I don't know why, one of my IAs is 5,000 words (the other ones are around 4,000). It is probably not recommendable because it is really time-consuming, but can you actually get penalized? I mean, should I go back and summarize it or get rid of sections?\ Thanks a lot

Hi guys, I'm interested in doing 3 ib certificates: bio hl, chem hl, and physics sl, (since my school doesn't offer physics hl), for grade 11 next year since I want to do sciences in ubc after I graduate. I am still going to obtain my high-school diploma doing regular courses, and then am going to have IB certificates on top of it. I'm not sure if the full diploma is right for me, and don't understand how a course like French ib can help me when instead I can take a regular French course, get a higher less-stressed mark, and be able to spend more time on a course that I'm actually interested

Hi guys, I was thinking about doing 3 IB Certificates, Bio HL, Chem HL, and Physics SL (since my school doesn't offer Physics HL) for grade 11 next year. I want to study sciences at UBC after I graduate, and I'm not sure if the full diploma is right for me. I would still complete my regular high school curriculum with the IB certificates, and I'm not sure if I should stick with my plan or do the whole IB diploma. Is my plan ideal? Will I benefit more in university if I do the whole diploma? Will universities recognize that I did IB certificates? I just don't see how courses like IB French and

Okay, so the IB coordinators strongly discourage all students from taking two HL sciences. However, I had really been planning on taking HL Chem and HL Bio. In my school (not sure if it's this way everywhere--USA insists on doing everything differently) you take the first year of the science (ex: IB Chem I)and then choose if you want your second year of that science, if you choose to take it, to be HL or SL. The first year is about the pace of an SL class. Pretty much all the sciences in my school are that way except Bio, which you must declare as an HL in grade 11. So, my question is, is taki

I applied to McGill university for Mechanical Engineering, and really don't think i'm going to get in based on my predicted grades compared to the averages they posted online. I was wondering if anyone knew my chances, and if people who have gotten in this year or in previous years could post their predicteds. Math HL: 6 Physics HL: 6 Economics HL:6 Chemistry SL: 7 English lang/lit SL: 6 French B SL: 5 My school gives 2 TOK and EE points to everyone so thats 36/42 or 38 /45 P.S. These predicted grades already got me a spot at UBC

I'm planning to apply to the UK for biomedical sciences. My IB coordinator said that I need "experience" such as in GapMedics or else there's a slim chance I'll be accepted to any of the universities I'm applying to. Any comments? Is this really true? I live in the UAE and there aren't any opportunities to work for people under 18 years old so I don't know what to do Please help! Any help is highly appreciated!

Hi, So this is the beginning of my IB career and as a higher bio student much is expected from me. Guessing its the same for lots of you too; newbies post your ideas on projects, veterans post things you've done/seen work in the past. Academic dishonesty is bad, y'all. Just brainstorm and give credit when it is due. Dankeschön, P.

Hey guys! Anyone have any good ideas on what I can do for the Group 4 project? Our topic is Hollywood Science; which means find anything unrealistic (stunts, jumps etc...) from a movie and try prove if it could actually be done! My group consists of 3 people; and we each take different sciences (physics, chemistry, computer science) Thanks !!
