Hey! I've just started IBY1 and until the end of September, I can make changes to my subjects. So I'm wondering if I should take English B HL instead of English A HL (which I'm taking now). I've always been quite good at English however it's not my native language and that's why I'm afraid if I can handle English A HL. I'm most stressed about the interpretations and analyses of the texts during the final exams. I'm quite good at writing but I'm not sure about analyzing. I'm also already taking 3 other HL subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Geography) and I want to make it easier fo

I’m a little conflicted about choosing which subjects to take as higher levels. My school forces us to take English and History HL, so I basically only get the option of one other HL. That will probably be Chem, but I’m also considering Math HL. Because of my school’s requirements I’ve been considering taking 4 HLs since I hesr that colleges don’t often look at SL classes. I’m a straight A student, but I struggle with time management a lot, and I realize the commitment I’d need to make. Not sure if I’m making any sense here, I’d just appreciate some advice on deciding, maybe some perspective f

Hi guys! In September I am going to enter the IB programme. One of the subjects I dread the most is English A HL. I am not an English native (I am Polish), therefore I would like to ask for any advice on how I can prepare for the programme over the summer. An exam I have recently taken assessed my English level as C1. I will be grateful for your opinion and advice. Take care

Hey Guys I'm halfway through my IBDP, i will be writing my summative exams for Grade 11 in May. I'm currently in math HL, but i'm scoring quite bad. I am considering shifting to Math SL, but i will have to push another subject to HL. I considered Econ for HL, but too much is already done. My best route, now is to take English HL. Should i make the move? In what way will it affect my college application, if i'm going to take engineering? My current subjects are (Math, Physics, Chemistry: as HL); (Economics, Spanish Ab, English as SL). I am extremely confused, as i'm able to score pretty w

I have to start doing my IOP and I get to choose from "Hamlet" by Shakespeare, "1984" by George Orwell and "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelly. I chose "Hamlet" and I was thinking about doing my topic on Horatio. The topic would be about what I think the sequel to "Hamlet" would be and what would happen in it. I want to make my presentation really interesting so any suggestions? Also, is my topic a valid one for the IOP?

So in English A HL, criterion A in the IOP focuses on knowledge and understanding of the novel. How do I show this in my presentation? I am doing character analysis through the main character's relationships and interactions with other people (indirect characterization). So would I show understanding by using quotes to support all of my points, analyzing the phrases and explaining their significance, and then concluding it by how this new knowledge adds to the reader's understanding of the novel? This is what I think I should do. . . To those who have done their IOP, can you guys pl

Hey, So, this whole forum posting thing is extremely new to me but l thought it would be worth it if l'm going to get any useful advice out of this. My IOP for English A (HL) is coming up soon and l have come up with my topic/question, as well as a brief start to my thesis and my two main points. However, the area l am struggling most in is writing the actual thing and what approach to take. I've started writing about my first point as l didn't know how to start the introduction. After briefly explaining my first point, l have no idea what to do from there. I know that the IOP is mo

Next week i get to pick my IB courses, I'm torn between Math and English. When choosing your courses, you chose which one you want to take HL between Math and English, Biology and Chemistry, French and History (in french). Since I'm in french immersion, i have to take French HL and History SL. Currently im in the grade 10 IB prep and my math mark varies from 94-96%. I love math and I was convinced that I was gonna take Math HL but I've heard and read about the exams, how they're extremely hard and they don't prepare you for the exam questions like in SL and they're worth around 80% of your

Hey there, I was wondering if anyone was keen to help me review some of the work that I have done for my WIT and EE maybe? I'm not sure, am I allowed to do that? Just send some work to you, you tell me if I'm totally going on the completely wrong track or if I'm going pretty okay? Also, is there a risk that if I do this, it will show up when they check my work with turnitin? Or will anyone plagiarise my work...? Thank you

Hello, I'm starting English Literature HL first semester in 2 days. I heard its one of the hardest subjects and its very hard to get a 7 in it. I got an 88 in Grade 10 English and I don't know how I'll be able to manage at least a 6 this year since that's like 93-96%, which is especially hard for an HL subject. Will I be able to survive English HL? Is it as terrifying as people say it is? One of my main issues is that I always saw English as an opinionated subject where you hand an assignment, essay, or whatever in and you pray that you got impressed the teacher, so I have no idea what to

Hello everyone! For the IOP part of my syllabus, our class has selected the books Like Water for Chocolate and Pride & Prejudice. I basically came up with the topic of how effectively satire is used in P&P, but food plays an extremely important role in the book LWFC, and I need to find a way to link the both of them together so I can compare and contrast the writing style of the authors. Any suggestions?

Hi. Like the title says, I need help in general when it comes to IB English A Literature. English was always my favorite subject and I was one of the top students in my class, but now I'm just lost I got 6s and even 7s occasionally in year 1, but in year 2 I never understand what my teacher wants. I consistently get 5s on commentaries done in class. I recorded an IOC and got a 5, while there were plenty in my class who hate English and never read in their free time (like I do) who got 6s. They just tell me to read the rubric in order to improve when I ask them for advice The problem is

Hello! I have already specified my EE Subject and Research Paper and have (sorta) figured out what I want to talk about. I will be exploring the political and religious influence on the allegoric interpretation of Dante's The Divine Comedy, taking into account the political and religious situation at the time it was written. However, I don't know how to introduce the topic. At all. And I could really use some tips on how to introduce a topic.
