  1. Since this is an antilog equation, my teacher said that propagating concentration uncertainties from pH is beyond the scope of IB Chemistry syllabus so I would have to do another way. He said that I should " calculate half the range of the pH values for each variation." What does this mean???? For context, let's say my pH is 2.13 +/- 0.05 and my H+ concentration is 7.41E-3. How would I get the uncertainty of it? thank you so much 🙂
  2. Hi, I'm planning to do my IA on investigating the effect of different concentrations of cyanuric acid on the chlorine concentration in swimming pools.   3. Hi! I’m currently doing my IB Chemistry EE with the topic of Anaemia I’m investigating the effects of putting iron objects in food while cooking to see if that raises its iron content. I got the idea from http://www.luckyironfish.com/ a project started a couple of years ago to treat anaemia in Cambodia. I’m having trouble with a research question for this, as I don’t quite know what to focus in on. I thought I’d try to replicate the experiment with just a piece of iron; placing iron nails in a pot of water to see if the iron content would go up, and do my EE as an eval
  4. Hi! So....the problem with me is that I can never concentrate when there is any background noise while I am studying. Point is that I can't concentrate when there for instance are people talking while I am working with school work, both at class and at home. I need it to be totally quiet when I am working too, which leads to me almost never being able to study for exactly this reason. I was therefore wondering if any of you guys had any tips for me regarding this exact issue? Or if any of you could share exactly how you work when there are several distractions and you guys need to study?
  5. So I used 1 Mole of HCl, which came in a bottle. I used 20 mL of that. I made 0.75 moles of it by using 15 ml of HCl and 5 ml of water etc till 0.25 moles How do I work out the concentration of it? in mol.dm-3 I did mol/vol which was 1/0.02 = 50?!?!? im so confused please help
  6. my IA was on the effect of temperature on ascorbic acid/vitamin C and I'm trying to find the molarity of vitamin C in each trial. I used 20 mL of orange juice (which contains all of the vitamin c), 150 mL of water, and 1 mL of indicator. on top of that I titrated in an iodine solution whose volume varied depending on the trial. I have the # of moles of vitamin C in each trial, but for the liters of solution in the molarity calculation, would I use the 20mL orange juice, or OJ+water, or OJ+water+iodine solution? hope this makes sense!!

So im doing a Design practical about Food Preservation for our Option F, but i need an idea how to solve the following issue: (Topic: Investigate a factor affecting food preservation) -If i take sugar as the factor (and for example changing the concentration), how would i know when it would help food preservation more? So: How do i measure the ''preservation'', by changing the factor (e.g. sugar)?   9. In dilute solutions, I compare each ion's reduction/oxidation potential with H+ and OH- respectively. However, for concentrated solutions, I keep reading that: anode: Although salt anion may have lower oxidation potential than OH-, because it is more concentrated, it is discharged. cathode: H+ is discharged. Why is it that at the anode you consider the concentration of the ions, but at the cathode, I've only ever heard H+ is discharged in these situations? ;o What would be an IB way of thinking through this? ;3
  10. Hello everyone! I've been having difficulty finalizing a topic for my Physics Extended Essay. From the beginning I've wanted to do something with measuring Indices of Refraction, but it's been difficult narrowing it down and making it a good topic.   12. My EE is about the effects on the blood due to aerobic and anaerobic exercise. During aerobic exercise CO2 is produced and during Anaerobic exercise C3H6O3 (lactic acid) is produced. In order to carry out my experiment, I would need such things as the concentration of the lactic acid produced by the muscles during anaerobic exercise. However, I can't find this information anywhere I look. My experiment would need an exact value or at lease an average value for the concentration. If anyone has any idea where I could find out such things it would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance

Hi Aim: find conc. of acetic acid in vinegar Given: NaOH: 50g of NaOH diluted to a 1 dm3 solution (50g + 1L of water) Household vinegar: 35 cm3 35 cm3 vinegar put into a flask and 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein added. using a burette of NaOH solution, added to the vinegar. Results that i got: When added 42 cm3 of NaOH (equilance point reached). How to calculate the concentration of acetic acid? Chemistry SL Thanks a lot.
  15. Hi what will happen in this reaction 2 NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + 2 H2O when I increase the concentration of one of the reactants. They form salt and water will a pH of 7. But if I increase the concentration of one of the reactants? will it effect the pH?
