This is a topic for all who need to change their IB subjects. I am in my first year of the IB diploma and I am taking Biology SL and Business and Management HL while i had not known that to go into medicine i would have to take Biology as HL and Chemistry HL. The question is that is it allowed according to the IBO to change from one sbjects to another ( in my case from Business and Management HL to Chemistry HL) and also is it allowed to changed from an SL level subject to HL ( from Bio SL to Bio HL). THANKS

Hi! I'm in Grade 11 and I'm having a little bit of a crisis about my HL subjects. I'm highly interested in both biomedical engineering and medicine as future career options, but I don't know which combination of science HLs I should take in order to increase my chance of success in these fields. Currently, I'm taking Biology and Chemistry in HL, but I'm wondering if I should switch my Biology to Physics HL while the missed workload from Physics is still manageable, even though the thought of dropping Biology pains me. I've been deeply passionate about science all my life and scored c

My Chemistry IA topic is focused on determining the calcium in milk by using the edta method (actual research question: How does the concentration of the calcium ion content relate to the temperature of the cow milk by using the EDTA titration method?) and I want to express my interest for my personal engagement. I am already doing research about the Calcium and EDTA things and the importance of Calcium and Milk in diet.

Hi guys!! Im retaking HL Chemistry and SL Math this upcoming November and I was wondering if there is any advice anybody could give me?.. Or if there is anybody in the same position as me who is also retaking one of the subjects in November:) If you guys have any advice regarding possible online review courses, materials you recommend, or just the nature of the November examinations I would really really appreciate it. Thank you!!☺️

Hello everyone, I just started IB year one and in the future I want to pursue neuroscience or biotechnology or something in that field. My subjects right now are : english a language and lit HL psych HL biology HL chem SL math SL arabic SL i want to go to universities in the U.K. or Canada. Now as I was looking at requirements for scholarship in my country I found out that I need chemistry HL and biology HL with a score of at least 5. Now my option is to take chemistry + bio + psych HL . I’m scared of the workload being too much and I e

My IA is to titrate the bases of different medications with the methanoic acid produced by bee stings; however, I am not finding any bee sting medications that have bases as their active ingredients, so I don't know what to do. Can antacids treat bee stings? Also, will I be at a disadvantage for having such a simple topic? Thank you.

I’m a little conflicted about choosing which subjects to take as higher levels. My school forces us to take English and History HL, so I basically only get the option of one other HL. That will probably be Chem, but I’m also considering Math HL. Because of my school’s requirements I’ve been considering taking 4 HLs since I hesr that colleges don’t often look at SL classes. I’m a straight A student, but I struggle with time management a lot, and I realize the commitment I’d need to make. Not sure if I’m making any sense here, I’d just appreciate some advice on deciding, maybe some perspective f

Hi, I'm about to choose my IB subjects and I feel like I need some help. It's really hard... Can someone write about Computer Science and Design Technology? Is it intresting for you, is it hard? Does the studying and homework take a lot of time? Also, is Chemistry HL really that hard? I heard terrible stuff about it, but I think I'll still choose it. What are the easiest subjects in IB? Sorry, for that many questions. I'm just nervous... Thank you for helping me with it Annkey

Dear everyone on IB Survival, I have already chosen by subject choices for the IB but I'm reconsidering them before I start IBDP1 in August. These are my IB Subject Choices = Higher Level = Biology, Chemistry, History and Italian B Standard Level = Math and English Lang and Lit My dilemma is that I want to keep career options open because I am not sure what I will want to do in the future. Medicine is highly probable ( the reason for Biology and Chemistry Higher Level) and so is economics, which of course requires Math HL. If I had Biology, Chemistry and

hey, so I recently started brainstorming on what I can do for my chemistry IA. I am doing HL chemistry and I am going into the final year of IB. I have somewhat of a basis on what I want to do. I want to do titration, having the acid be hydrochloric acid and using various basic solutions. For the basic solutions, I want to create solutions from some antacids and compare how each antacid works by seeing how much of each is needed for the pH of the acid to reach and maintain a neutral pH. I'm not sure if this is going to work because this idea is still in the works. Any ideas or tips on how I ca

I have 2 different ideas for my Chemistry IA experiment and am not sure which one is better. Both of them are on ocean acidification of coral reefs. As coral reefs are 95% calcium carbonate and so are seashells, I'm using seashells in my experiment. 1) My first experiment is on investigating effects of varying levels of concentration of carbon dioxide in water on seashells So I will be investigating different levels of carbon dioxide in the water (varying concentrations of carbonic acid) on seashells in distilled water so I'll be carrying out titration to find the neutralising point

Hi, I have a P1 question that I don't know how to solve. Any help would be welcome. Why do gases deviate from the ideal gas law at high pressure? A. Molecules have finite volume. B. Cohesive forces increase the volume from the ideal. C. Increasing pressure increases the temperature of the gas. D. Collisions between molecules occur more frequently as pressure increases.

I've been having trouble coming up with EE topics and questions that I can write about and thought that'd I'd be able to find some help or inspiration here! For Chemistry, I was interested in effects in the evorinment, but I'm not sure how to go about the experiment. For History, I was thinking about writing about the LGBT+ movement and what factors lead to changes of said movement in the U.S. While these topics are intriguing, I'm open to other suggestions or ideas as well! Also, I was looking for opinions on a possible Visual Arts EE question: How does the use of Color T

Hi :-) I am a very passionate amateur chemist and I want to know if I could do all 4 options of chemistry and learn some further org chem. It's pretty like further math, where you study 4 options of math and some further geometry and algebra. I am the only HL student in my grade along with 2 SL students and I think my teacher could spend lots of time on us. So I am wondering if this is possible. Thanks

Hi everyone, This might sound very retarded and I know I messed up a bit. I got my IBDP in May 2016 with a 35/45 with a 3/3 for TOK+EE. My 2 best subjects were Bio and chem HL throughout the 2 years as I had continuous 7s. Unfortunately I had a surgery a few months before the final exams which cost me 2 months of classes missing out on time to do my IAs, EE and I also missed a lot of the portion for the exams. My 2 best subjects ended up having the worst grades in my finals. (I know i hate my luck) I got a 5 in bio (missed a 6 by 1) and Got a 4 in chem (I WAS HORRIFIED). I'm applying for

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I have a few questions in regards to my subject choices for next year (we're being asked to choose now at my school), please help! I'm looking at doing either Further Mathematics HL or Chemistry HL as my sixth subject, since I won't be doing Arts. For a bit of background, I'm taking: English A Lang&Lit Mandarin ab initio Economics SL Physics HL Math HL I'll most likely be doing Math or Physics at university, and I'm quite passionate about math, but I've read that Further Math is crazy hard and I should refrain from tak

Im hoping to reapply to med school in UK in 2017. I finished my IB course in 2016. I had a predicted 41/45 but due to medical conditions such as a surgery which cost me 2 months of classes and a few unfortunate circumstances I wasn't able to perform to my best and only secured a 35/45. I had A in my Psychology EE and a B in TOK. I somehow (no clue how- kind of blanked out on the day of the chem exam as i missed a lot of classes) only got a 4/7 in chem and I got a 5 in Bio missing a 6 by 1 point. I had an offer which i missed and so will have to reapply this year. I am resitting Bio and Chem HL

Hi everyone! I'll be taking the IB soon (sadly) and I'll have to choose between Physics and Chemistry for my last HL. I'm hoping to major in Architecture and already have Geography and Literature as my other two HLs. I'm interested in both subjects and generally get roughly the same scores for both of them (though slightly higher for Chemistry). In terms of rigour and appropriateness for my future major, what would you really suggest?

Hey! I'm just about to start IB in two weeks. My career inclination is related towards economics and/or business management/administration (probably somewhere related to Investment banking or Finanace). I chose: *UPDATE* Math SL French SL English Language/Literature SL Economics HL Chemistry HL Geo HL Are these subjects ideal? Is this subject combination difficult? I know for econ some universities require HL maths but everybody tells me HL math is too hard. However, I'm good at maths and have been getting 7's throughout the years except for my igcse f

Hey all, So next year I'm entering the DP. These are my subjects: HL Chemistry, HL Biology, HL Language and Literature, SL Math, SL French, SL Business Management. Many people say that doing HL Bio and Chem together is going to be really hard, but I'm up for the challenge. Has anyone here done the two HL sciences together? Is there any way I can prepare (other than great time-management skills)? Is it possible to score high overall? And just curious to know: how much free time do you all have with this combination, just so I can predict how much I can do with my non-academic life !

Hi everyone, The current options I have submitted are: Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics HL LangLit, Economics, French SL However I am now considering removing Computer Science HL and replacing it with Chemistry HL. I was looking through the textbook for Chemistry and I found it to be quite interesting. But I also need to know whether it is absolutely required for Engineering? I am considering studying Engineering at university, possibly Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Also, how is the workload for Chem HL vs Computer Science HL? Would ComS

Hey All! I'm doing the Energy option this may in my exam, and as I've been revising I realised that there are a lot of redox reactions to be covered for the rechargeable cells and fuel cells HL topic. I just wanted to know, are we expected to memorise these reactions and be able to reproduce them in the exam or just understand how they work (meaning that we indirectly talk about them or have the equation given and then do some work with it)? Thanks! P.S. @Msj Chem: Thanks so much for your videos! We didn't have too much time to cover the option in school, so I

Hey! I've taken chemistry HL and my IA is about studying the effect the change in concentration of different electrolytes at cathode has on the emf of a voltaic cell. I've kept the electrode and electrolyte at anode constant and observed the change in emf for different concentration of (8 different) electrolyte and electrode combination at the cathode. The problem I'm facing is in the introduction. Can you give an example for purpose of this IA? Basically, why it is necessary to know the change in emf for different electrodes.
