Hello, there! This is my first post here ever. So, I'm going to hand in the subjects option form two days later. But I have trouble making choices on English. I want to know the differences between English A SL and English B HL apart from the difficulties and quantity of assignments. Do both English A HL and SL focus on literature itself, whereas B focuses on the application of the language and cultures? Thanks!

Hey! I was wondering if anyone has the Prescribed List of Authors (PLA) and the Prescribed List of Translations (PLT) for English A: Language and Literature? Our English teacher left the school very suddenly, and we currently have no English teacher to turn to for any resources as of yet (I'm in DP 2)! I was hoping to get a head start on figuring out the subject myself, and it would be very helpful if I could get these two documents. I've been trying to find them online, but I can't seem to locate the files. Also, if you have any tips to learning English A: Lang & L

I'm writing a WT on Language and Power and I decided to write an apology. It's supposed to be an apology from a person who said some ignorant, insensitive comment about a certain group of people (and got a lot of criticism for). I'm writing it as a social media post where I can also write down comments and show different people's reaction to this person's apology. In my rationale, I said that I'm trying to show how apologies can be used to deflect accusations and evade responsibilities. However, my teacher told me that my WT is too vague and that she can't see a clear topic that I'm

For Paper 2 in English A Lang & Lit HL, my class studied multiple poems written by Philip Larkin and Murakami's "Kafka on the Shore". My question is: in Paper 2, we have to refer to two texts that we have studied in class, so, if I choose to cover "Kafka on the Shore" and Larkin, should I talk about only one of his poems? Or can I talk about a number of his poems?

Soon it’s time for the to choose subject for EE. I would like to hear your advice. In the future my goal would be to study Business. However, I’m not doing EE on Economics as I think I have enough studying in it with all the IA’s. Psychology is one possible, like doing topic eg ”psychology in business / negotiation” but I’m not sure whether it will benefit me enough, as it’s mostly about theories and studies in Psychology. English would be the last option. I heard it would be easy to get good grade, am I right? I’m good at analyzing stuff, but the question is about what topic I would choose in

Hey guys! My class recently did a few in-class Paper 1 samples, and I did absolutely horribly in them! I seem to always get the wrong main idea and impression of the poem that we get, and the teacher told me they were not convinced by the examples I used to back-up my main idea. So I was wondering! Does anyone have any tips for analyzing poems you have never seen before? I already am aware of the "Read the poem at least 3 times before analyzing" rule! What can I do to be as close as possible to the real main idea? Are there any works that you guys can recommend me t

After much thought, I have decided I'm going to try and write an English A language-based essay. Here's hoping it'll be fun! This is my Extended Essay diary- maybe it'll be helpful to someone! If anyone else is writing an English A essay, please do let me know- maybe we can help each other! Creating a Topic I actually came up with a possible idea quite a while ago, but I forgot about it in favour of a tie between a history essay and an English essay. I wanted to write it about music, but after reading the EE guidelines for a Language A essay, my idea sailed right out the windo

Hello, I was wondering if there are any restrictions on the uses of fonts and graphology in general in written tasks for English A (Language and Literature). I'm writing a diary entry for my written task and I wanted to use a handwritten font for it. Thanks.

Hi my fellow IB classmates I am a Y11 student currently taking my first year of IB (it's been 2 months already as of this post) at an international school in Hong Kong. However, there's a special case for me. Originally, I am leaving for Canada or the United States to continue IB or IB/AP due to the limited subject choices offered here in HK. Due to certain events, I broke my forearm and in the process also severely damaged my ulnar nerves, preventing me to leave as constant medication is required. On the up side, my parents allow me to leave next year to continue IB in Canada or the stat

I've decided to base my EE on Language and literature. The two books I've picked is The Catcher in the Rye and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. However, I am having a difficult time forming and EE question. My EE advisor suggested basing my EE on how The perks of being a Wallflower is a modern version of The catcher in the Rye, but we are afraid that the EE will go off the Lang and lit area and.focus more on culture. Please do give your thoughts on this idea and/or suggest a better question. Your help is very much appreciated, Thanks

I moved countries in the middle of my IBDP and I can't find proper experienced IB teachers anywhere to teach me English literature. I have done 2 units and have a predicted 7 grade in both my IOP and WA. Should I switch to language and literature and do a two year course in under 8 months?

Hey!! I am doing my EE in English language and literature and it's a category 1 and it is on The Perks of Being a Wallflower. My research question is "To what Extent were the books that were mentioned in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" had an impact on the mentality of the protagonist?" the thing is, I am starting to work on my EE but I do not know where to start. And I do not know if I have enough content for my EE!! Could I get some Guidance??

I was just wondering the difference between the two of them, the advantages and disadvantages, and the features of HL and SL in both Language, and Language + Literature respectively! Thank you in advance! ali.asif

So I decided to write a letter from the perspective of a Jewish refugee who moved to England during WWII. My teacher said I might have to reconsider the perspective because I'm pretending to be Jewish and writing a letter in English, when I would most likely be writing in German. If I state in my rationale that I have intended for the text to have originally been written in German and my text is a translation, would this solve my problem? I don't know if this would work since it might be not authentic enough or something.

I decided to change my extended essay topic yesterday and I wanted to know if you guys think my new topic and research question are alright. I'm doing it on language and literature. The books I picked are A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin and I'm planning on talking about symbolism in Sansa's storyline but I'm not sure if my RQ is alright or if I have to modify it because I don't want it to sound too simple or overdone, so if you guys could give me your opinion I'd appreciate it a lot. The question is: What is the importance of symbolism in Sansa Stark's storyline in

Hello, so basically I read a post about EEs on English A1 and it said that you mustn't choose a novel that you've studied in class. I just wanted to make sure if this is true or not as I've been looking around for a while and I haven't found anything that would support this. Thank you!

Hey! I would like to know which books did you read for Spanish A Language and Literature. My teacher told us that it is important to have the same theme in each book and we should choose carefully. She recommends books that we already read and we don´t like. Can you put your lists here? Thanks!
