Hi everyone. I'm having a little trouble with my Math IA., I would like to do the topic "The Mathematics behind Medical Testing", where I would speak about false positives / false negatives and the probability of getting them. However, I don't know where to get data from. Am I supposed to make up a hypothetical situation / disease and then make fake numbers for it ? Is that even allowed..? I would be using conditional probability to find the probability of a student testing positive for the XYZ disease, actually having the disease. I would be using the conditional probability
Hi, I really need help on my Math Studies IA. I am investigating the relationship between language ability (the number of languages a person speaks) and academic performance (their most recent IB grade) in Math and English. I want to see if there is a correlation between these two variables of language ability and academic performance, and later on compare to see whether language ability has a stronger impact on performance in Math or English. Can someone advise me the math processes I could use for this. I tried making a scatter plot but since both of my variables consist of whole numbers it
Ok, so here's the deal. I am a part of a new program at my school, which comprisises of about 15 boys doing the IB Mathematical Studies Course in one year instead of the standard two. Effectively this gets all maths out of the way, and leaves us time to do other subjects in year 12. My problem is that they have basically just thrown our IA deadlines at us, without really taking us through possible topics and having conversations with us about how/what to choose. I am looking along the lines of a footballing topic such as; "Investigating the relationship between the height/weight of a player a
