So hey guys, I have been struggling with my Extended Essay on Film. I have researched a lot on the director and on the movies I am going to talk about. My previous RQ was: How did the Director develop his use of filmic techniques to portray the detrimental effects of war on the individual and society as a whole within each film? The thing was I realized I had not have an exact thesis to guide my work like I was basically wandering and throwing a few cool terms to the work. Also, the war impact on people and society is kinda puny. So, as my supervisor advised me, my work, m

I've recently found out that there is a new curriculum for IB Visual Arts, with first examinations taking place in 2016, so this only effects people starting the course this year. The new syllabus can be found here and blog posts explaining the new curriculum can be found here and here. Even though I only started the course in August I was really familiar with old syllabus: the A/B options and the IWB/studio work as the assessed components. So I'm a little caught off guard with this change! What are your thoughts? Do you think this change is for the better or the worse? Any advice on how I sho

I'm a few weeks into my first year of the DP and everything is going well. The one thing I'm a little concerned about is the way my IB Visual Arts class is being taught. First of all, there are technically only three people in my entire school taking the class. So, the three of us (another junior and a senior) are lumped in with another art class which isn't AP or even honors, it's just a basic class for people who need the credit and we're doing the exact same work as them. We do keep an Investigation Workbook but I feel like the pages she's assigned to us aren't really what were supposed to

Hi guys! I'm just wondering... is Art and Design hard? I have posted a thread on The Student Room forum about my subject choices, and someone recommended me there that I shouldn't take Art and Design (the only group 6 subject that my school offers) if it's not necessary for my future degree in university. That person told me it is hard and very time consuming while I can just do art for CAS. I plan to take Art and Design SL. I'm not the biggest fan of making art but when I'm inspired, I can do it well. But you know what I mean... I'm not always inspired. Someone please help? Than

Visual Arts EE: Cultural References from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Guest posted a topic in Extended Essay
Yo fellow IB-ers! For those who've done Visual Arts and have done/are doing an Extended Essay on it, I need to clarify a doubt: Does animation qualify under Visual Arts? In my Extended Essay, I was going to talk about Avatar: The Last Airbender and the cultural influences behind the imagery, choreography of bending and the art which all contribute to the story. After investigating, I will examine the impact it has had and why it is widely acclaimed (if it's possible, I don't know how to fix that part or how to tighten the "so what?" aspect of this) How does my topic sound? Is it okay-

I'm about to start my EE, and I've already finalized a totally awesome topic: To what extent did the Golden and Silver Ages of Comics influence Bruce Timm's work?Bruce Timm is best known for his animation and producer work in the DC Animated Universe, including his character designs for Justice League, Batman Beyond, and the animated series for Batman and Superman. But he's done his fair share of comic book penciling, too, both in and out of DC Comics. For examples of his work, I want to include images and character designs from some of the cartoons he worked on, both those listed above and

Good news--I've finalized an EE topic and even chosen a supervisor! Bad news--I'm scared. o_o Why, you ask? Well, as much as I love contemporary comic book art--and just drawing in general--I'm not exactly an expert on the terms, lingo, art-elese, and concepts they use out there. Is doing research on that stuff actually part of the fun of doing the EE--or am I in deep trouble?

How much value is placed on the originality of the topic/research question of an EE? Would such fall under "Criterion K: holistic judgment"? Can a successful EE topic be made about comic book art? Say I'm doing an EE on literature--is it recommended that you have already read the literature itself, or can good research still be conducted from reading after deciding a topic?

Hi guys so this is my first post I don't exactly know how to use this thing but I hope I'll get the answer I'm looking for. So first off, I'd like to know what the easiest group 6 subject would be. Last year I took art for my IGCSE's and I was really struggling with the amount of projects that I had and I was finding it difficult to spend so much time on art and in the end I just gave up and went with the flow, not giving a flying **** about my grade (I don't think I even got a mark). Well this year I'm in the same position as two years ago and I don't want to make the same huge mistake of ta
