  1. I'm applying to NYU, and I know quite a bit about admissions. What are your questions? I'd be happy to help. (=
  2. Hi(= I am currently applying to college, and I would like to get a good idea of what my chances are of actually getting accepted. My stats and extra-curriculars are below, so please be honest. Also, do you have any tips on how to write the personal statements? I am having a really difficult time with those. STATS: Indian female IB Diploma Candidate SAT Score: 1910 ACT Composite Score: 29 4.2 weighted GPA / 3.6 unweighted GPA Rank: 14/350 Enrolled in Honors/AP courses throughout high school EXTRACURRICULARS: ASB Board Representative (act as a liaison b/t my school and my school district)
  3. Thanks(= I am an Indian-American girl. Does that make a difference?
  4. Hey everyone. I would like to honestly know my chances of getting into my schools with my stats and extra-curriculars. Please be honest, and also, do you guys have any tips on writing the personal statements? I'm having a really hard time with those =( Thanks in advance! ACADEMICS: IB Diploma Candidate SAT Score: 1910 ACT Composite Score: 29 4.2 weighted GPA / 3.6 unweighted GPA Enrolled in Honors/AP courses throughout high school EXTRACURRICULARS: ASB Board Representative (act as a liaison b/t my school and my school district) NHS (National Honor Society) President Lead Attorney in Mock
  5. Hey all! So, I wrote the rough draft of my written assignment last year in IB English HL Grade 11. The work I chose was "A Doll House" by Ibsen and my title is "Striving for perfection: an Adlerian psychoanalysis of Torvald Helmer in Ibsen's 'A Doll House'." My english teacher last year said it was acceptable, but after re-reading it numerous times this summer, I'm afraid that it does not satisfy the requirements for the WA. It's extremely psychological in scope, and I was wondering how I could fix that. Is my title (as-is) acceptable, or should I alter it? Thank you!
  6. Thanks for your advice! I'm hoping my SAT retake will bump up my SAT score. This was really helpful, especially the Fiske Guides! I've taken three subject tests (Math 2, English Lit, and Biology M). I did really well on English Lit (720), but my Math and Bio score were on the lower end.
  7. Hey everyone! So, I'm officially a senior in high school which means that college applications are in a couple months. I'm definitely nervous, and I want to get a good idea of which colleges I have a legitimate chance of getting accepted to. Will you please read my stats and let me know what you think my chances are? ACADEMICS: IB Diploma Candidate SAT Score: 1910 (retaking it next month - hoping to break into the 2000s) ACT Composite Score: 29 4.2 weighted GPA / 3.6 unweighted GPA Enrolled in Honors/AP courses throughout high school EXTRACURRICULARS: ASB Board Representative (act as a liaiso
  8. Hello! For my EE, my topic is mirror imagery in Sylvia Plath's novel "The Bell Jar" and her poem "Mirror." What do you guys think? Is it acceptable? I would like to refine it by looking at how mirror imagery conveys a specific theme in the works such as the struggle for self-acceptance. What are your opinions? Thank you everyone! (=
  9. I'm currently a junior in the IB program at my school. As of right now, I have a 3.5 unweighted GPA and a 4.1 weighted. I have always taken honors/AP/IB courses, and I enjoy them. I haven't taken my SAT/ACT yet, by my PSAT score was 190. Not terribly impressive, I know, but I've been studying and hope to increase my score to the 2100-2300 range. My extra-curriculars are: ASB Junior Class President, ASB Board Rep for the school district, Vice President of NHS, Lead Attorney on Mock for the past three years, and CSF member. I also started and volunteer at an after-school mentoring program at a l
  10. The question I've chosen for my IA is: "To what extent was the media and propaganda used by the U.S. from 1960-70 responsible for public opposition to the Vietnam War?" What are your opinions on this topic? Is it bad, good, and how can i improve?
  11. I have a few possible ideas for my IA, but I need help choosing the best one & editing the question. The possibles are: 1. To what extent did Dr. Josef Mengele's experiments during the Holocaust impact the Jewish psyche? 2. The Forgotten Holocaust: An investigation into Japan's Unit 731 and the use of biological warfare during WWII I like both, but I would like to hear your opinions on the topics (which one's easier, more interesting, etc.). Thanks!
  12. Usually you pick your 3 HL/3 SL based on your interests and what you're good at. However your school might not offer certain subjects or might only have a certain one at HL only or SL only, so you're limited to what your school offers. Since you're in the US you might end up with HL English and History, just because that's how a lot of schools in the US structure their IB programs. You can choose UP TO 4 HL so your combination would be 4 HL/2 SL. Anything else would have to be a certificate, but I don't know why you would want to take more than that because HL classes are HARD. If you want to
  13. Hello. I'm currently Pre-Diploma Programme (10th grade) & was curious how the IB subject selection works. How are we to pick the 3 HL courses and SL courses to take? Can we pick more than 3 HL courses if we know that we can pass the classes with good marks? Also, if someone could recommend courses that would be helpful/beneficial to take for me (I'm interested in going to medical school - hopefully UCSF, UCLA, or UCSD). Thank you!
