  1. Hey guys, I'm a month into Year 1 of IB and I just wanted to ask about the specific requirements to get into software engineering/computer science courses in the US and Canada. I currently take HL Math, Physics, Econ, and SL LangLit, Chinese, and CompSci. Would it be possible for me to get into good engineering programs e.g. University of Toronto, Waterloo, or McGill without me taking Chemistry? Thanks!
  2. Hi guys, just wanted to ask a quick question, do colleges really prefer English Lit over English LangLit or would taking either be fine? Thanks!
  3. Hi guys, As I'm currently in the process of choosing my IB courses for next year, I was wondering what are the main differences between SL Lit vs SL LangLit in terms of the actual course and assessment? There seems to be a general consensus that a 7 in SL Lit is near impossible and that LangLit is the logical choice. However, I have heard that universities prefer students who have taken SL Lit. Can someone please verify this? For context, I'm a STEM oriented student taking Math, Physics, and Econ at HL and I am not sure whether taking SL Lit would take too much time off these alrea
  4. So over the next week, I have to choose my IB subjects and I am having trouble picking my HLs. I plan to study either in the US or in the UK with my main career paths being business and finance or computer science as I am not entirely sure yet. Because of this, my subject choices could look like this: SL English LangLit SL Spanish B H/SL Econ H/SL Compsci or Chem H/SL Math H/SL Physics Now the question is, which combination would leave me open to taking finance or comp. sci./engineering in university and if the workload of taking all 4 at HL would be too
  5. Hi guys, What is a good IB subject combination one can take if I plan on studying either economics/finance or computer science/software engineering (still not sure yet)? Preferably one that opens up opportunities for both career paths. English Lit SL Mandarin B SL Economics HL/SL? Physics HL/SL? Math HL/SL? Comp. Sci. HL/SL or Chem HL/SL? Thanks!
  6. Hi, just stumbled upon this thread and I have a few questions regarding my subject choices. So for uni, I plan to take either econ/finance or compsci/software engineering. Here are my current IB choices: HL Math HL Econ HL/SL Physics HL/SL CompSci SL English Lit SL Mandarin Questions: 1. Is it fine if I take IB physics and compsci but not chemistry if I plan to take compsci/software engineering for uni? 2. Is Econ HL required if I want to take econ/finance/business in uni? If not, then I would rather take HL Math, Physics, and CompSci. 3. Is taking Math, Physics, CompSci, and Econ all a
  7. Hi guys, so I'm currently conflicted in terms of choosing my IB HL subjects and this is cause I am not entirely sure what I want to study in uni but I've narrowed it down to either comp. sci/comp. engineering or econ/business/finance. I understand that the requirements for these two courses are quite conflicting and I am wondering which combination of HL subjects would give me the most opportunities for the aforementioned courses and whether or not I should take 4 HLs instead. Thanks! IB Subject Choices: English Lit. SL Chinese B SL Econ HL/SL ?? Physics HL/SL ?? Math HL/SL ?? Comp. Sci. HL/
  8. Hi, so I'm currently in the process of choosing my IB subjects for next year and I've chosen my standard level subjects. As for my HLs, I've chosen Math and Physics to keep my options for engineering open. Now here's my problem: I'm still deciding whether to take engineering/compsci or economics/finance for uni so I'm having trouble choosing between CompSci and Econ as my 3rd HL. Which would you think would be more beneficial for me going into the IBDP and would going for 4 HLs be a better solution? Thanks.
  9. Hi, so I'm currently a 10th grader who studies in International School Manila and I'm planning to take IB next year. I've already made my choices for most of the IB groups however I'm having trouble choosing a subject for group 2. As I am taking A English Lit. SL, I am now trying to choose a course for my 2nd language. Being Filipino, I am fluent in the language however I have also been studying Mandarin Chinese for around 8-10 years coming from a Chinese school. Would you think taking Filipino A2 would be more beneficial for me as I would obtain a bilingual diploma or would taking Chinese
  10. Hey guys, Here are the subjects I plan to take: English Lit. SL Mandarin SL Economics HL/SL Physics HL/SL Math HL/SL Comp. Sci. HL So my problem is in choosing what subjects I should take for HL. I'm not really sure what I plan on taking for uni but it's either going to be in computers/engineering or economics/finance. So among Econ, Physics, and Math, which two should I take as HL and which one should I just take as SL? Thanks!
  11. Hello, I decided that I am going to take compsci for my college major and I need help in trying to decide whether I should dual major+minor, dual major or just take a minor. What do you think would be a useful course to take with compsci? I am interested in economics, finance, business, math, and physics. If you are interested in my IB courses, for HL I have Math, compsci and econ and for SL I have mandarin, English, and physics. Thanks a lot in advance! Any suggestions would help a ton!
  12. Hey, after some research and gathering opinions, I think I have finally decided on my IB course for next year. Any opinions regarding my course selection or anything I should be aware about and would be gladly appreciated. Advice regarding IB would also be helpful. Thanks! Courses: Math HL Computer Science HL Economics HL Physics SL Mandarin SL English Lang. & Lit. SL

  14. So my nickname TheNikawi... when I was younger, I was really into gaming and my dad used to call me Nikawi so I used that as my game tag but it was taken so I add the 'The' and I have used it ever since in most of my social sites! Thanks!
