  1. Hi everyone, This is probably my second topic on IB Exploration HL, but I have finally chosen a topic which I find interesting and fun to investigate. I am investigation the Gabriel's Horn Paradox and the limitations to it (why it isn't technically that much of a paradox). I wanted to ask you guys if you know about this paradox? If you do, what limitations do you see to this paradox? I have read about it being a special case, like harmonic series. Can't really understand that! If anyone could help out... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel%27s_Horn#Apparent_paradox Furthermore, what should I
  2. Ah makes sense. In that case I'm sure what you are proposing is at the level of an HL maths exploration, but sounds like you might want to consider using game theory to me. I don't know much about it, but I'm pretty certain that doing those calculations using conditional probability would be very tedious and time consuming. I completely agree with you, I should consider Game Theory. I hope I can also use conditional probability, though. I am going to start trying out things for the exploration. Have any of you started the exploration yet? How did you do in setting a clear topic? Did you make a
  3. Hi guys, Thanks Hollath for your input. The truth is that I'm not just calculating the chances of getting a certain hand. In fact, I am finding the chances that it is worth continue playing based on the money in the pot and the card odds. So technically, I would be doing a similar problem to the one you did in class but taking into account many more things. I might as well take a look at Game Theory! Maroctam, I just looked over that essay! It is certainly a very interesting EE on zero-sum poker, however, I'm not really diving into that type of topic. Apart from seeming to descriptive, I still
  4. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on whether this topic is appropriate for a Math Exploration in HL. I am planning on analyzing Poker Odds, mainly by focusing on Pot and Card Odds. I will certainly be using conditional probability, Bayes Theorem, Factorials, Permutations, etc. I will basically give an invented scenario and, from there, I will find the probabilities of having a certain hand and of winning based on the opponent calling or betting. I will also use probability to determine if the odds of the hand are profitable to continue playing. So, what do you guys thin
  5. Thank you allieib! I don't know what your topic was but, how did you demonstrate it was significant? Were those examples personal? Thanks!
  6. Thank you Nicole, that is a really interesting tip! Could I ask you to also take a look at this thread (posted by me)? I'm really having trouble on how to tackle this Criterion! http://www.ibsurvival.com/topic/26009-how-to-achieve-full-marks-in-criterion-c-of-tok-presentation/
  7. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me clarify how to achieve full marks in Criterion C of the TOK Presentation. What I am really asking is how are we supposed to demonstrate the significance of the topic? Can anyone give an example of how to demonstrate significance of a topic? For those who have already had their presentations, and maybe gotten a good mark, how did you score in Criterion C and what did you do to achieve this? Thank you PS: This is what is needed to get a 5 in Knower's Perspective (Criterion C): The presentation, in its distinctively personal use of arguments and exa
  8. I really appreciate your comment, bluedino. The truth is that I was afraid I was being subjective in thinking my KI was good for the presentation. Thank you!
  9. Hello all, I've been preparing for my TOK Presentation, which I will have in about 2 months or so, and I would like to get your opinion on whether you think this KI is good to tackle in a 10 minute TOK Presentation. Since the presentation is short, I decided to restrict myself to this KI: To what extent is it ethically justified to reveal truth? I already have a real good Real Life Situation with this and a whole lot of AOK's and WOK's to expand on this KI. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear your opinion on it. Thank you
