Will Math Studies Qualify For US College?
Ms.Blackford replied to tex_lex1125's topic in USA & Canada
The Universities in the U.S accept math studies. Although, if you're going to study something heavily math-required like math or advanced physics, then standard would be a recommendation. Sometimes even HL is a requirement, but that's rare and doesn't apply to any of the social sciences.- 3 replies

I felt that English lit HL was too hard for me, so I dropped it to SL. It was a lot harder then the English in pre-IB (more lang&lit), which I did not really think about. Even SL is hard and you have to read a lot books/texts, especially if you are not a native speaker in English. So I would generally say: Yes, HL is difficult and you need a general interest in novels and discussion (about novels). The book list we got for HL English was: Persepolis To live A Doll's house Emily Dickinson -20 poems The Bluest Eye Othello Oranges are not the only fruit (reading right now) The Great Gatsby

I would definitely say green, looks more polished than the blue one. The blue fabric has a strange tone and it clashes with the brown leather(?) thing. The green one is fab :-)

Teens kill Australian man because they were bored?
Ms.Blackford replied to Brienna's topic in Debate and Discussion
Well, killing people "just because of boredom" does not feel like a valid argument for killing somebody. (yet, what is?) but still. If they "were bored" they could have gone skydiving or whatever. They must have been super high and aldready mentally instable. -
I would stay away from the Abortion/gay/whatever-upsets-people-the-most -topics. And I honestly think that it will be REALLY hard to get a good grade of an abortion EE. Saying it's immoral/moral to do an abortion will upset people, because it has a lot to do with religion. And saying something in their religious aspects are immoral or moral is highly disrespecful, because we all come from different backgrounds, ie. those things start wars

What would you do if you were in control of IB Survival.com
Ms.Blackford replied to Graeme's topic in General Discussion
I would like an IB "meet&greet" section in the forum. Like where IB students can actually meet in real life and discuss homeworks and so on :-) -
I feel that sparknotes can be helpful, that depends on what you're reading. It can destroy your own thinking but also help you start thinking.

Well first of all, I agree with Blackcurrant (delicious name btw,). But I feel that this topic would be more appropriate in the field of psychology and not for English B. A more suitable topic for English B would be how Stephenie Meyer's language makes it seem that Edward is less dangerous - Which of course is not a very good example but I hope you see my point? Although, I would personally stay away from writing and EE based on Twilight or The Hungergames.

What School supplies do I need for my subjects?
Ms.Blackford replied to dsokolova's topic in Pre-IB/MYP
- Personally, I prefer taking most of my notes by hand, so a good quality pen and pencil are required. As well as some paper to write on (a book for each subject). Also, colored pens are fun :-) -> If you use computer to take notes on, I still recomened getting some paper and pen. - I would say a calculator for maths, (our school lend us our calculators) but If you are unsure about which model to get I suggest you ask your teacher about that. And maybe a ruler. You don't really need one, but it will keep your math notes(and tests) looking neater. - A good calendar to keep track of -

Ms.Blackford replied to FaisalH's topic in Pre-IB/MYP
I start on the 21st of August! Finally, after two years of pre-IB (had to re-do the year due to sickness and poor math grades, gah!) What about you? I Start on the 9th of September it's my first time that I have lessons only in English cause I'm German but I hope it will be good and I won't die under the amount of work was pre Ib hard ? Oh, we had an exchange student from Germany before, She learned both English and Swedish, So I think you will be fine! It just takes like a month or so to adjust I would say. I've been having lessons in English since 7th grade. No, I don't really think pr -
I'm probably a bit messed up bacause of the IB literature, but I do find The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wild really, really good. I've read it three times, It's somewhat deep and twisted, but I love it!
