Hey, I have a problem picking IB subjects... I'm in Pre-IB and I'm considering studying psychology or medicine. The problem is that I have: Maths SL, Polish SL and English B HL. So I have to pick two HL's and one SL form the group of Psychology-Biology-Chemistry. Which combination would allow me to apply for both courses? And if English B HL combined with Maths SL doesn't block my way for any of those? I'm considering studing in GB or elsewhere in the EU, the cheapest possible. I would be really grateful if someone who has been trough such situation would contact me and help a bit with how to organize the subjects And if Psychology HL then Biol or …

Hi all, I know that journals are the best sources for information in terms of psychology ia's, but would it be bad if i cite sources such as: a slideshare that has concise information about the topic simplypsychology.org psychyogi.org A citation/reference used in a wikipedia article? I am having trouble finding free (clear and concise) sources for the studies I will be talking about in my IA (Pickel 1998, loftus 1987, Yuille & Cutshall 1986)

Hello IB fellows! I am currently revising for my mock exams that will begin on Monday and I got stuck on one of the questions in the Psychology syllabus. In the Pearson Baccalaureate textbook, they have written "Explain one study related to localization of function in the brain" but in my guide book (Hannibal) it says Examine instead. Now I'm confused to which one to use. Not sure what I missed here... Thanks! Aida

Hi! I plan to replicate Loftus' 1987 study on the Weapon Focus Effect (WFE) for my psychology (HL) ia, however I am aware that Loftus used a corneal reflection device in order to see how much time was spent looking at the cheque/gun (in order to provide evidence for the WFE) in addition to a questionnaire and asking p's to identify who the man in the video was. Is it okay to do my IA on this experiment if I were to exclude the element of measuring how much time is spent looking at the cheque/gun because its a bit complicated to do?

So let's say that (theoretically, of course, as no one would ever be left without a teacher) I didn't have an IB psychology teacher and the few of us in the class had to resort to teaching ourselves. Can anyone give any tips or keys to study so that I can actually pass the tests in May? Also, I know the class is relatively simple so I've thought about doing it as a fourth HL.. Thoughts?

Hey guys So Im in IB Yr 1 and we finished micro. We had a test on theory of firms (P1 and P3 format) and in that a got a 3. So my teacher said took a retest today, and that went bad too. I dont have the results yet but dont expect more than a 4. So what should I do? Should I take Math HL (My teacher says I'm capable, but then it'll be a lot of catching up) and Eco SL or Psych HL and drop eco entirely? (again a lot of catching up) But I feel more inclined towards Psych Pls give inputs thanks I hate IB

So my psych teacher is teaching IB for the first time and that paired with a serious grudge against people who talk back to her has completely coloured her judgement against many of our essays. Yesterday I received a ERQ back ("Evaluate psychological reasearch (theories or studies) relevant to the study of human relationships"). I evaluated two theories explaining altruism (a concept in human relationships under social responsibility). I got only half marks for the essay because apparently evaluating two theories based on altruism is not enough. I need something else like bystanderism or pro-social behavior. However, I can find no source on the internet to back…

Hey fellow psych students, I finished the methodology part of the course about a month ago. However, I really don't understand the different methods of content analysis (grounded theory, ICA or whatnot). Honestly I don't even know how many there are. My teacher isn't very helpful and the psych books are useless in this regard as well. Can anyone explain them to me or point me to a good online resource? Thank you in advance!

Hi I'm a first year IB student and has started to think about my EE topic. I've already decided on writing an essay on psychology and I'm struggling about which specific topics that I should write about. Two topics I have in my mind is 'to what extent can divorce influence children' and 'to what extent can being diagnosed of epilepsy affect one's social life'. I know they are two very different topics but I'm very interested in both of them. I brought up the first topic to my psychology teacher and he suggested me to change the question a little bit as it would probably be a descriptive essay instead of a topic that is argumentative, so I'm kind of confused…

Hello everyone! I am currently in Grade 9, and for a summative assessment, I need to collect information using a survey. My topic is currently about video games. I am sorry that I didn't put a good enough introduction for this, but hopefully this works Here is the link to the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/FCwiiKBVQCkE3VkI2 There are only 7 questions, so this hopefully will not take a very long time. Please do my survey. Thanks! Edit: Forgot to say, if you see any errors or spelling mistakes, let me know.

Does anyone know a method to manually, not automatically, find the critical values for the Mann-Whitney-U-Test-calculation? Does anyone know which hypothesis the IAs are conducted with? Are they one-tailed or two-tailed hypothesis? Is it required to include how the critical values were acquired in the IA for Psychology Higher Level? If so, should the method of the acquistion of the critical values be included in the appendix with the calculations of Mann-Whitney-U-test or the results-section? When I calculated the Mann-Whitney-U-Test on the wepage www.vassarstats.net I got the critical value of the upper limit and lower limit to be 38 and 19 respectively fo…

Hi! I'm about to enter my first year of IB in August, and I'm taking SL Psychology through Pamoja. I haven't seen many threads about online courses, specifically psychology, but I'm sorry if I'm mistaken and these questions have already been answered. Basically: What was your experience in taking psych through Pamoja? Did you have a good teacher? Did you like the layout of information? Is this class really difficult? (I'm wondering if I can bump it up to HL, if that's not a hassle for an online course.) Would you recommend getting a textbook? (I'm looking at the Pearson Baccalaureate, but I'd like to avoid it because it's super expensive.) I hop…

So, my school is completely new to the IB thing, and even though our teachers suppose to be familiar with the program, I feel that some of them are as confused as the students are. And our psychology teacher is like that. No doubt he is a good teacher - lessons are fun and interesting, but it seems to me that we are too relaxed. We don't use the textbook, go from one field to another, and most of our class time is spent on her telling fun stories about her friends or "cool" childhood. Sometimes they are related to the topic, but still. Is it supposed to be that chill? For now we've done Some cognition and emotion stuff, deviancy, creativity, love a…

Hi everyone! I really, really need to know if my extended essay topic is even worthy of investigation and if i'll even find the information. To what extent does a young girl’s upbringing affect their response to menstrual pain and discomf…

Hi, I have got 7s during most past papers mock we have done in school so it was a big surprise and disappointment to me when I only got a 6 in the finals. I need 5 % more to get a 7. I got 24/28 from my IA and it felt like papers 1, 2, and 3 went well as well. Should I ask for a remark since I really want that 7. How likely (or unlikely) is it that I would get a grade raise?

You get all the questions beforehand, and you have to memorize ten 800-word essay answers and two 300-word short answers for each level of analysis. I'm taking IB Psych, and it seems to be assessing our ability to memorize information rather than our interest and capability in the subject.

So for the SL Psychology IA, our teacher has told us that we must use purely descriptive statistics for our data, and that inferential statistics (such as tests for the validity of results) are only for HL students. The problem is that the research I decided to replicate deals with a binary data set. As in, there are only two outcomes (correct or incorrect). I am able to find the mean for a measure of average and that makes sense. However, the problem is that apparently we need to include a measure of spread too... For a binary data set, measures of spread such as variance or standard deviation does not really mean anything. I guess there are two questions…

Furthermore, do you know if in treatments its ok if I just learn treatments for depression? or I need to know at least two disorders?. Thank you!

Because we have studied Psychology from Pamoja online we have never had an actual exam to write. So we don't really know what to expect for the final exam (year 1). What would be an ideal way to study? What should we look at mainly? Knowledge of studies? How to structure sentences?

Hello, I'm actually studying for the psychology Ib exam and I had several questions regarding how to study. Is it a good idea to only study the essay questions on the biological levels of analysis section instead of learning the essay questions in depth from all the levels of analysis. My second question is if in the choice of human relationships I personally don't like violence as I feel its quite difficult and feel that the research can't be used in other areas, so is it ok if i don't study this area and just study the rest? Thank you for the help!

For my Psychology IA, I conducted a study in which I told participants to read out loud a list of words, the words were color names printed in black (this is condition one) and wrote down the time they took to complete the task. Then, I gave them another list of words, but printed in colors different than what their names pronounced (for example: red, green, blue), this was condition two. There are no control groups or experimental groups since every participant went through both conditions. However, I'm having trouble in the inferential statistics criteria for my paper. I don't know what test to use. Please help.

So I've been wondering how different P2 is from P1, other than content, of course. In terms of writing essay responses, is there any defining difference? Also, looking at the prompts from each section in the options, I feel like some of these prompts don't seem to be essay prompts judging by the command terms, e.g. "Define resilience." If this was P1, this kind of prompt would probably be an SAQ? Do these prompts get changed into long essay prompts on the exam, or are these prompts not going to appear on the P2? How much flexibility does each prompt have? I feel like I just lack general understanding regarding how P2 works...

Hello, I'm currently writing my IA in Psychology HL about Loftus and Palmer 1974. For calculating the inferential results I have used the Mann-Whitney U test and justified it by saying that I used an independent meeasure design in my experiment. I don't really know if that's enough for justifying it or if I should include other reasons? Thank you for the help.
