Hey guys. I found out that the syllabus changed for IB psychology today, and my class doesn’t know about it. And I don’t have an updated textbook. How do I write the essay now? And should I buy a new textbook or use my Pearson?

I formed a question already but I'm not sure if it is specific enough. I've actually altered it multiple times, so I'll also list those out as well. Please give me some feedback on these potential research questions!! I know they seem really similar but I want to choose one that's specific enough. 1. To what extent does birth order play a role in determining personality? 2. To what extent does birth order influence intelligence? 3. To what extent does birth order play a role in career choices? 4. How are Freud and Jung's views on the psychoanalytic theory of dreams (theory of the unconscious) similar and different?

Our psychology IA is based on Peterson and Peterson experiment (1959). We are performing an exact replication of the original experiment and in that there is only one group (experimental) for which a repeated measures design has been used. However, according to the new IB guidelines, for the analysis bit we are required to apply both inferential and descriptive statistics. For inferential statistics we need a control group too, so that we can compare but there is no room for a control group in the original replication. In other words it won't make sense to have a control group. Is it still possible to do the IA without inferential stats? Can anyone suggest any …

Hi, this is my first year as a diploma. So for my extended essay, I chose psychology as my subject. And my topic is the influences of parenting style on the behavior of an ADHD child. I'm still brainstorming about which behavior might be suitable for my EE. I came to a conclusion on self-confidence, and anxiety. Any tips regarding my EE topic? Or any advice for a suitable behavior I should research on? THANKSSS~

Long story short, my IB Psych SL class was recently collapsed into an 'independent study class' following some issues with our previous teacher, and we're working on revising our IA drafts with guidance from our coordinator (who teaches psych, but not at IB level). We've just been given access to a number of materials (including the correct rubric) for the IA for the first time, and one of my classmates is freaking out because of the condition that conformity and obedience studies are not ethically acceptable to replicate. He replicated Asch 1951, the one with the lines and the confederates, and at the time our previous teacher didn't say anything about it, but suffice it…

Is there a minimum word limit for long answer/essay questions (which are 22 marks, section B in paper 1 and in Paper 2)? My teacher says that it is obligatory to write more than 1000 words, but I haven’t seen such a criteria in the official subject guide. Do you guys have any idea?

Hello, I would like to know how many times is my IB Psychology teacher allowed to give me feedback? Is the maximum number of written and oral feedback different? Can my Psychology teacher give feedback on all my IA drafts regardless of the number of drafts? I tried to find the information via google but failed to do so. Any link to some reliable source where it answers my question would be really appreciated though I would gladly accept any answers regardless of whether it's backed up with some source or not ☺️

For my Psychology Extended Essay I'm interested in the topic about gender roles but I'm still not quite sure on which aspect of it that I would like to focus on. I found tons of articles and journals about gender roles, gender differences, the biological and sociocultural aspects of gender, etc, which make me even more confused. Any suggestions on interesting specifics or aspects of that particular topic?

Hello, I am in the process of writing theory and planning part of my IA, ready to conduct the experiment beginning of September. I have chosen to replicate Loftus, Miller and Burns (1978). In this study the participants are show a series of 30 coloured slides depicting a red Datsun driving down a road, stopping by an intersection with wither a stop or yield sign (two conditions) and then getting into an accident with a pedestrian. I can not find the original slides (or any) online and have not actually seen them and so cannot be sure what the exact series of events is, thus I cannot make an animated replica of it. Has anyone else done this and has the …

Hi, I am doing a Psychology IA on the effect of music on test performance, and am struggling to find a theory or model that describes what I am investigating. If any of you guys have perhaps done a similar study, and have a theory or model you are happy to share, that would be greatly appreciated. The original study I am using is attached below. I have a topic idea, but am seeking advice as well as help forming a question. I plan on researching the effect bilingual education (second language acquisition?) has on childhood development within psychology. I plan to look specifically on education and brain development. First off, does that seem like a possible topic? I've never taken a psychology class, and my school does not offer DP psych. Any advice on how to approach it in a psychology standpoint would be very appreciated! Secondly, I need help refining a question. I think I will word it as: To what extent does second language acquisition affect childhood development? or something like that. I'm ha…

Hi all! Im planning to take psychology HL next year. Could someone give me an overview of the course? For example, what are studied in the course and what students learn/do. In addition, this is a niche question but what are your thoughts and opinions on taking Psychology HL online? Is the subject too gruelling to be taken online and for people who have actually done Psychology HL online, what are your thoughts and opinions?

Hey there! My Psych class is working on our IAs, and our teacher told us today that we need to have "creative titles" for our experiments (to be put on the title page). (She told us that last year's IAs apparently got critiqued specifically for that??) I was just wondering if anyone else been told something similar? I don't see why "Replication of [blah blah blah]" is inherently wrong... Definitely not a big deal but any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, For the Relationships section for paper 2, I have some questions about whether these studies above are applicable to the L.Os: Analyze why relationships may change/end: Wedekind? I read on some website that we can say that a couple's MHC genes are too similar but I don't really think this is an acceptable study because of this (weird?) argument... Biological factors contributing to the maintanence and formation of relationships: Wedekind and a study about how a woman's menstrual cycle dictates the extent of how attractive they find masculine faces. Do these work? Discuss the role of communications in maintaining relationships: Gottman's Four horsem…

Hey guys, So I'm taking HL Psychology on Pamoja (currently in week 12: UNIT 3: Biological Approaches to Behaviour) and I'm struggling a lot. I find it hard to keep track of everything I've read about even when taking notes. The class moves kind of fast and my teacher constantly tells me that I don't use enough psychology terms. I've tried constantly reading each rubric for how to answer questions and even listing down words I don't understand to use it in the future. I'm engaged in discussions and I continue to keep trying harder to hit all the necessary things when answering an SAQ. If anyone has any tips, it would be a great great help. Hey guys, so here is the thing: our teacher at school is very bad, she isn't practicing with us any questions, and she's just waffling about personal topics every lesson. Yet when we give in any essays at all, she always gives a 5 saying there is not enough critical thinking even though there is evaluation. My worry is that if it goes on like this without any intervention or action, I will fail my exam just because she wastes my time every lesson and believe me , WE DO NOT COVER ANYTHING, and are jumping from one topic to another. So my question is; Do you guys have samples of excellent long answer questions(essays) for paper 1 and options, and which resources would …

Hi everyone, I was just wondering whether it is actually allowed and acceptable to use abbreviations such as p's / pp's (participants) and indv vs coll (individualistic vs collectivist, idk if this is the right abbreviation for it but ya) for the exams? If so, does anyone have like a list of abbreviations that we could use for the psych papers? Also i tend to use "&" instead of "and" for all my subjects, does anyone know if this will affect my grades?? Thank you!

So I was looking at past papers and I saw this question in Nov 16 "Explain how one principle that defines BLOA has been demonstrated in one example of research" simple question right? Then, the mark scheme says "acceptable principles may include, but are not limited to: 1)patterns of behavior... 2)animal research 3)Biological correlagtes to behaviour..." What do they mean by "not limited to"? Aren't these the only principles in BLOA? Does it mean students can invent their own principles if they want to? Wouldn't that be very difficult to mark? What is an acceptable principle? Thx.

Guys, There was an Aspire Psychology Conference here in my country yesterday, and the best thing happened!!!! Dr. Philip Zimbardo creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment signed my frigging Psychology Course Companion. I am truly on cloud nine right now. I am still freaking out about last night. A hero signed my book. He spoke to me, he took a picture with me, he smiled at me. It was the best night of my life!!!!!! It's accurate to say that my life is complete!!!! I would include the selfie I took, but I don't want to upload my face, so if anybody wants to see the selfie dm me.

My IB psych teacher just warned us not to write in first person POV on the IA, even when outlining our procedures. I was a little confused, seeing as the IAs for every other course seem to encourage the use of first person POV, and in this one I'm literally outlining my research and actions. Is it actually a no-go, or is it just my teacher's personal preference?

So, our teacher in psychology knows absolutely nothing about IB psychology and IAs, so this forum is my only chance of gaining some information! Anyways, here are some questions that I had about it: 1. For the experiment itself, how much are we allowed to copy? For example, we are replicating Bransford and Johnson (1972). There is a passage there about doing laundry, and we wondered if we could use the original passage that Bransford and Johnson used. Or must we absolutely create our own passage? 2. If somebody has any knowledge about that particular experiment, is okay if we use these two experimental groups: 1. context before passage, and 2. no context ? Is th…

Hello everyone! I am just seeking for advice here regarding Psychology. Mock exams are coming up soon, and I am really motivated to work hard through them, but it seems that I am having some difficulties with Psychology - I simply cannot study for it, I do not really know how to. I am very well aware of all the requirements (such as the learning outcomes etc) but I do not know how to study and am I studying in enough depth. Also, I do not know how to start writing the real essay questions because I feel like I know so little that I cannot form an argument. (We have studied through all LOA so far, if that's relevant). Any advice would be very appreciated!
