HI there, Right now, I'm starting to plan out my Math IA for Math SL and I wanted to do it on strategies in 'Jeopardy', the game show (in other words, game theory). What I want to do is model the optimal strategies to be used throughout a game in order to come as close to guaranteeing a win as possible. All of this would be based on last year's average statistics in order to keep my information relevant and updated. I would really appreciate if someone could tell me if this is a good idea and/or if I need to add or change anything to create a better investigation.

I didnt quite reach the grades to be able to do Math AI HL I mean I got a 6, borderline 7 at GCSE but I needed an 8 to be able to do AI HL. The thing is that SL is way too easy, and nobody will care about it, especially if I want to be able to proceed with my career as a pilot (as y'know its math oriented). My school says that SL and HL is the same in the first year and that I can switch if I do well. First, I want to know if this is true. Can't trust the people at school for some reason. I know its true for English And second, can I please have some helpful advice for Math AI SL so I can switch to HL and maintain some respect in the math community lolol…

Ok, so I'm not the best at math (I suck) so I don't really know what I want to do for my IA. I wanted to do something related to either probability, geometry or trig. I was thinking of either proving or disproving Doctor Strange's prediction in infinity war that the avengers had 1 in 14,000,065 chances of beating Thanos, but idk if that would work. pls help!

Maths SL IA - Is this a good topic - Schrodinger's Equation and Monte Carlo

I was wondering if my Maths IA topic is too hard. I want to do it on "How accurate is the Monte Carlo Method in predicting Schrodinger's Equation?" I asked my teacher if it was a good topic, and he said it's up to me, but I really don't want to get halfway through it and realise that it's beyond me. I also do Physics HL and I did Maths HL for half a year until I had to move to Maths SL because I didn't have enough time.

Hi, My IA is first draft due in about 2 weeks, and I have yet to find a topic. I'm interested in exploring population growth and decay, and seeing how it affects different countries (specifically developing countries) and their food supply, and will probably expand it to try and find the best(?) population. Is this a suitable topic? Should I focus it a little more? i don't wanna make it too complicated. And does this require a hefty knowledge of statistics concepts? I haven't takena statistics class, yet. Thanks

I want to use the sir model for epidemics such as ebola or measles, but I can't come up with an original idea. At first I wanted to predict the time it would take to kill the whole world with ebola ignoring quarantine and such, but that equation uses the lambert w function... Ignoring the fact that it's a bit complicated, I wouldn't be able to explain the SIR model and the lambert w function while at the same time trying to prove a point in only 12 pages. I desperately need an idea, PLEASE HELP

I´m not a strong math student so I´m trying to study a bit over the summer before going back to school in the fall. I´m going to take Grade 12 SL math and was wondering what units they cover in that course (or what topics I should be looking at when I study). Also, would anyone have any math websites or youtube channels that they found helpful when studying? Thanks

Hello guys, I am doing my maths Sl Ia right now. I chose a rather easy topic (correlation) but I was wondering how I could use more difficult maths than calculati g the gradient, r-value , mean of x and y and the linear and logarithmic curve in my graph. I really need a good grade on on my Ia because I only got a 2 in my exam. I suck at maths exams but I want to improve my grade as much as possible with my IA :)

Hi all so I'm really desperate here 😓 I suck at maths and have no idea on how to progress my ia mathwise Basically my question - How can I minimise costs (expenses) in order to achieve a maximum amount of profit? (in a bake sale) I was planning to Find out the total cost of the ingredients ( with reference to the recipe from Joy Food Sunshine) Determine how many we need to break even (Break-Even chart) Based on break-even number how much ingredients do we need and cost Then find the ‘volume’ for the cookie dough and how to optimize the dough use Then Optimisation on profits? …

Hello, so here is my issue. I was looking for a topic, to start my Maths SL IA, which can be also not difficult to change if I'm moving to maths Studies SL. I've chosen architecture because I like it. So now, I have a big issue coming up to a research question. I would want tips, for it. Should it be short? or lengthy? Should it be very explicit or no? Should it be an affirmation or support an issue? Thanks for your answers

Hi, So I was thinking of doing my Math SL IA on the use of the Fibonacci sequence (basic, I know) when composing visuals for film and television. I am thinking of taking stills from famous movie scenes and seeing how the Fibonacci sequence is applied and why. I am just afraid that this will turn into a visual analysis instead of a mathematical exploration and was wondering how I can apply more maths into this. thanks!

Hello everyone, I have found a new idea for my math sl ia but I don't know if it's good enough for me to proceed with it. As a result of my research I found that I could find the volume of objects such as vases with the use of the volume of the revolutions of solids formula and some other mathematical processes. Do you think that the use of this concept and combining it with a real life object is sufficient for a SL IA? Thank you in advance

Hello everyone, I was looking for math IA ideas and I thought of trying to prove that the double angle formulae are correct. This fits in with the SL syllabus because I use the formulas and the Unit circle. Do you think that this sort of exploration would be appropriate to get around a level 6-7? Does it have potential? Thank you in advance

Hi, I want to do my Internal Assessment using more dimensions than 3. However, I don't know exactly what I could/should do. I saw someone solving the "Wolf, goat, cabbage" problem using 3d geometry, and wanted to try to solve the "River crossing puzzle" using the same idea. I believe it would require 6 dimensions, and I would use matrixes to represent it. My teacher said she couldn't predict if it would turn out good or not. I don't know if it's too simple or too complicated. I still really like this topic, and if this is not possible, I would probably do something with a hypercube or something, but I'm not sure yet. Does this sound like a good idea? …

Hi! So, I have been thinking of possible Maths IA topics for quite a while and have just decided to do it on Vectors (because I'm relatively better at it?). I have heard that quite a few game developers utilise vectors during the game development process, and so it would be in my greatest interest to base my IA on vectors in video games. However, I'm not quite sure on how to go about writing this. I have a basic outline of the structure of my IA (start with 2D then advance to 3D), but I'm starting to worry that it may not be as good as a topic as I hoped it would be. Could someone tell me if this is a feasible topic? What should I do to maybe add more depth to t…

Hi again, so my exam is in a few days and I'm pretty much done studying. All I'm really wondering is, are there any calculator tips or any videos/websites that thoroughly explain the functions of the Ti 83 Plus Graphing Calculator? Particularly for like probability or statistics but any general special tips or hacks would be nice. If you have any videos, websites or just personal tips, please let me know!!! Thanks!!!!!

Hey guys, I'm studying for the May 2019 IB exams and I'm currently stuck on vectors. I was wondering how you find a perpendicular and/or parallel vector to a 3D vector? For example. "Find an equation of the line perpendicular to vector (3, 0, -1) and passing through point (4, 2, 1)." or, "Find the equation of the line parallel to vector (3, -2, 8), and passing through (3, 1, -2)" Thanks in advance

Hey there! So my math ia topic is due May 17th and my teacher has given me very little help on what it is and what topics can be used. I want to work with animals/in conservation in the future, so I was thinking of doing something like population ecology. At this point, however, I'm lost. I don't know how to find a specific topic, and I need to keep it fairly basic because math is not my strongest area. I've never done any sort of population ecology type project and I'm not even sure if that works for this ia, so I definitely need some help/inspiration. I was also wondering if something like the chi-squared test for genetic traits and then maybe distribution would work, b…

Hello! I am first year IB student, and today was the first consultation about Exploration with my maths teacher. Our homework for the break was to search some topics that we are interested in from maths point of view. Mostly I am interested in fashion. Everything I have found on the internet seems too basic. And there are more aspects of fashion in maths, for exaple at selling, fabric price and sizing ... I guess doing all of them would be incoherent, not specific and still, too basic. Is there any idea that could work for a fashion topic? That is not too basic? Did I miss anything? Other thing I am interested in is graphs of exchange rates, but i think that would be…

Hey guys, So I am currently in a maths SL class and I am not doing that bad, but I am considering dropping to maths studies because of the teacher. She is failing me now (apparently it was a mistake and she's lowering my grade for EXCUSED absences when I was sick, but that mistake should take place since it was written on my report card that im failing), and we have this weird thing now, our class is divided into four groups (every group has a leader) and every lesson we have a test or two, and before that a leader has 5-10mins for explaining a topic. We get grades for that, and my group is getting the lowest scores and those low grades are affecting our predicted gr…

Hi! For our math IA's at school, we were asked to make a proposal that includes our topic/aim and maths involved. I managed to get my proposal approved with the topic to investigate the relationship between non-right angle trigonometry and arc sector area with origami but now I'm stuck. I wanted to do this topic with the intention of investigating how a crease pattern is made but I'm not sure where or how to start. Any suggestions/help would be super greatly appreciated!!

Will the car go beyond the stop sign? I'm specifically having trouble with determining the C value for the indefinite equation of displacement. Thanks!

I am really interested in doing my IA on fractals but i've found that the math is just so insanely complicated and I just don't get it, but I do understand the basic theory and i can explain what they are. I'm just wondering how in depth the actual mathematical formulas and stuff have to be for the IA and weather i can look at it from a more theoretical point of view than mathematical or if I should just change my topic.

I am a Year 1 IBDP student I am struggling with Math SL, and I don't want to move to Math studies SL because I want to take a Management course in the UK, and they require Math SL (I think...). I really want my grades to improve. Hoping for at least a 36 in my IB score 😕

So this is my first year of the IB. I chose Maths SL despite having really good marks in prior math classes. The first half of the year, I also did really well. However, I am on the verge of getting a below minimum mark, low enough not to get credit for the second half of the class. Within the syllabus, we are on vectors right now and also just started trigonometry. These two topics, mainly vectors, just break my mind. I have tried and spent hours on homework and to memorize everything. However, I continue to simply put. Fail. I just don't know what to do. I either do really well, or fail outright on tests. I am also outright terrified of the upcoming stats and probably t…

Hi guys. I'm in my last year of Math IB (SL) and I'm in desperate need of some guidance. I have no idea how to go about doing my IA. I've decided that I want to find the optimal speed at which a vehicle (a tank specifically) should travel to get the best fuel efficiency. Along with this, I might also try and figure out the temperatures at which oil would freeze inside the engine by like graphing/modelling it somehow?????? As you can see, I'm really lost and I don't know how to approach this topic and I don't even know what math I should be using. Any advice on how I should try and pursue this?

!!HEY to anyone reading this!! I am writing an exam on Topic 3: Circular functions and trigonometry in a few days. I have been revising for my physics exam (which was totally worth it) and doing history notes and therefore managed to fail to keep up on my math revision greatly.
